Payroll software calculates your employees' payslips every month and prepares the DSN (déclaration sociale nominative, France's monthly payroll declaration), through which employers pay their social contributions and report to the social security bodies. This ranking brings together ten solutions, read on their vendors' websites in October 2026: platforms where a payroll specialist runs payroll for you, software built for accounting firms that handle dozens of client files, international payroll services and a tool billed per payslip for the smallest businesses. For each one, you will find what it does, who it is for, its limitations and, when the vendor displays it, its price in euros.

The 10 best payroll software in 2027

  1. Payfit: for employers who hand payroll production to a team of experts, from the very first salary.
  2. Silae: for accounting firms, integrators, SMEs and mid-sized companies that run payroll.
  3. Nibelis: for companies with 50 or more employees that want payroll, HR and time management in a single suite.
  4. ADP: for companies of every size, with one product per headcount band and an international payroll offer.
  5. Deel: for teams that hire and pay employees or contractors in several countries.
  6. malibou: for companies with at least 5 employees that want a dedicated payroll expert and an HR platform.
  7. Openpaye: for companies that run payroll in-house as well as for firms that produce their clients' payroll.
  8. Remote: for companies that employ people abroad, with or without a local entity.
  9. YeapPaye: for firms, groups and integrators that want a configurable payroll engine open through an API.
  10. QuickPaie: for very small businesses and solo company directors who pay for their payslips one at a time, with no subscription.

Why does your choice of payroll software matter in 2027?

The DSN page on Service Public Entreprendre, the French government's official information site for businesses (page last verified on May 4, 2026), defines it as an online declaration made every month from payroll data. Every company that employs staff must file it, and the same page states that this requires DSN-compatible payroll software. Your payroll tool therefore produces, each month, the declaration used to pay your contributions and to inform the social security bodies about each employee.

The calendar leaves little room. A company with fewer than 50 employees must file its DSN by the 15th of the month following the pay period at the latest, and by the 5th from 50 employees upward. A period of sick leave or the end of a contract is reported through a dedicated DSN within 5 business days. A late filing exposes you to a penalty of €60 per employee per month of delay, and leaving out an employee is penalized by the same amount.

2026 adds a new mechanism. Since July 2026, the Urssaf (the French social security collection agency) can issue a substitute DSN, which itself corrects data still flagged as anomalous despite reminders, according to a Service Public Entreprendre news item dated July 28, 2026. This correction comes after several reminders and a discussion phase with the company, and the DSN page specifies that it applies first to the data used to calculate pension rights. A tool that spots inconsistencies before filing, and a contact able to handle feedback from the social security bodies, therefore weigh heavily in your choice.

How did we rank these payroll tools?

In October 2026, we read what each vendor publishes on its own website: home page, feature pages and pricing page where one exists. No software was tested in a paid version, and no partnership influenced the order. Four criteria set it:

  1. The filing chain. Does the site explain how the DSN is generated, checked and sent, and how feedback from the social security bodies is followed up?
  2. Who produces the payroll. You in the software, your accounting firm, or one of the vendor's payroll specialists: your internal workload and your responsibility change depending on the answer.
  3. Target size and scope. Payroll for a very small French business and payroll for a group operating in several countries do not call for the same tool.
  4. How readable the price is. A rate published in euros, with its unit (employee, payslip, flat fee), ranks ahead of a price given on quote, for comparable features.

The top five places go to the vendors our selection counts among the market leaders; places 6 to 10 go to vendors that specialize in a specific use.

The 10 best payroll software, reviewed one by one

1. Payfit

Payfit takes care of your payroll with a dedicated team of experts, who collect the variable items, generate the payslips and handle the filings with the social security bodies. On its Paie plans, the vendor writes that it takes responsibility for payroll and declarations. The platform handles the DSN and the export of its summary, calculates the withholding tax rate and produces the accounting entries and the payroll ledger.

Payfit AI, the built-in AI assistant, detects payroll anomalies, submits your variable items on your behalf and answers employees' questions. Around payroll, the tool handles leave requests, pay advances and expense reports, annual reviews, supplementary health insurance and laptop ordering.

Best for: a company paying its first salary, thanks to the Starter plan, then employers with 1 to more than 1,000 employees who prefer to delegate payroll production.

Strengths: a dedicated team with a response promised within 24 hours; experts available Monday to Saturday; payroll, absences, expense reports and reviews in a single tool.

Limitations: the Paie plans add a base subscription of €49 per month to the per-employee price; the Starter plan is reserved for companies running their first payroll; from 10 employees, the pricing page suggests requesting a demo; the vendor states that exceptional adjustments may incur fees.

Pricing: Starter at €26 excl. VAT per employee per month; Paie at €20 excl. VAT per employee per month plus a €49 excl. VAT monthly subscription; Paie avancée at €27 excl. VAT and RH+ at €30 excl. VAT per employee, with the same subscription. These amounts are shown for a simulation with 3 employees, and the vendor says its prices adapt to company size and change with the payroll total (price checked on October 10, 2026).

2. Silae

Silae publishes payroll and HR software geared toward accounting firms and integrators, presenting itself as their long-standing partner. Its mySilae solution can be run by your accounting firm, deployed by a certified integrator or used directly. The payroll engine includes more than 900 modeled collective bargaining agreements and automates production all the way to the DSN.

Around this core, mySilae links leave, remote work, sick leave (reporting to the CPAM, the local French health insurance office, and subrogation), working time and reviews to payroll. Other modules can be switched on in the same platform: HR analytics, health and welfare plans, HR contracts, e-signature, expense reports. The vendor, which dates its beginnings to 2013, offers an app on iOS, Android and the web.

Best for: accounting firms that produce their clients' payroll, integrators and service providers, as well as SMEs and mid-sized companies.

Strengths: more than 900 modeled collective bargaining agreements; compliant DSN filings generated automatically; HR documents compliant with the collective agreement generated from the payroll file with mySilae Contrats.

Limitations: no price is shown on the site.

Pricing: prices not published; the site invites you to "talk to an expert."

3. Nibelis

Nibelis brings payroll, human resources and GTA (gestion des temps et des activités, time and activity management) together in an integrated suite, hosted in France on ISO 9001 certified servers. You choose your level of support: managing the software yourself, management assisted by its consultants, or delegated management, which outsources your payroll to the vendor. A dedicated expert is provided in the service offer.

The attendance module handles annual day-count contracts (forfaits jours), annualized hours and shift cycles, collects time through manual entry, a virtual or physical time clock, then calculates overtime, bonuses and premiums before passing them to payroll. The suite also covers recruiting, training, reviews, expense reports and the BDESE (the economic, social and environmental database French companies must keep for staff representatives). The site offers a free payroll audit.

Best for: companies with 50 to 250 employees and mid-sized companies with more than 250 employees; industry pages cover construction, the health and social care sector and road transport, among others.

Strengths: three levels of support, from software alone to delegated payroll; a time engine that feeds payroll directly; hosting in France.

Limitations: no published pricing, and the site points you to a contact form or a demo; the size-based offers in the menu target companies with 50 or more employees.

Pricing: prices not published.

4. ADP

ADP sells both payroll software and payroll outsourcing services, and says it has been helping companies for more than 75 years. Its range is split by headcount: ADP PEGASE for 1 to 50 employees, ADP DECIDIUM for 50 to more than 5,000 employees, ADP Link from 5,000 employees, and ADP Global Payroll for multinationals' international payroll.

ADP PEGASE adds expert advice and a dedicated team of payroll specialists who answer by phone, on an online platform accessible 24 hours a day. ADP DECIDIUM is a modular human capital management (HCM) solution that includes payroll. The group also offers time and activity management, talent management and HR analytics.

Best for: companies of every size, from very small businesses to large groups, and in particular those that want a single provider for payroll in France and abroad.

Strengths: a product suited to each headcount band; a multi-country payroll platform with visibility across all countries; the choice between software and outsourcing.

Limitations: no published price, everything goes through a quote; the range has several products to choose between before you send the request.

Pricing: on quote, the site offers a free quote.

5. Deel

Deel is used to hire, pay and manage teams in more than 150 countries from a single platform. Deel Payroll handles local and global payroll, with more than 150 currencies supported, cryptocurrencies included. To recruit in a country where you have no company, Deel acts as employer of record (EOR): its offer then covers the employee's payroll and tax filings.

The platform also includes an HRIS (human resources information system), automated flows for employee onboarding and offboarding, an API and Deel AI, an assistant trained by HR and compliance experts. Pricing is monthly, with no long-term commitment.

Best for: companies that recruit employees or contractors abroad without opening an entity there.

Strengths: EOR, contractors and payroll in the same tool; more than 150 currencies; a monthly subscription you can cancel at any time.

Limitations: the tool targets teams spread across several countries, and a company that pays staff only in France should ask to see DSN production in a demo; the pricing page gives no price for payroll alone, which its FAQ says is included in the price quoted.

Pricing: prices shown in dollars on the French pricing page at the time of checking: from $599 per employee per month for EOR, and from $49 per contractor per month, VAT treatment not stated (price checked on October 10, 2026).

6. malibou

malibou pairs an HR platform with a dedicated payroll expert, reachable without limit by chat and phone. This expert runs your payslips, produced on Silae, and manages and sends your monthly DSN filings, as well as event-based DSN filings such as sick leave or end-of-contract reports.

The platform centralizes absences, the attendance and remote work schedule, expense reports, time tracking by project (with exports for the French research tax credit), employee onboarding and offboarding, and reviews. It connects to Swile, Alan, Qonto and Pennylane, among others, and salaries can be paid by SEPA file or through the banking integration with Qonto.

Best for: very small, small and mid-sized companies with at least 5 employees that want a single point of contact for payroll, while keeping an HR tool.

Strengths: a named payroll expert you can reach directly; every collective bargaining agreement supported according to the pricing page; an offer with no commitment.

Limitations: pricing starts at 5 employees; a €50 setup fee per employee is added in the first month; above 30 employees, the price is negotiated case by case.

Pricing: €28 per employee per month for companies with fewer than 30 employees (starting at 5), VAT treatment not stated, plus a €50 setup fee per employee in the first month; above 30 employees, custom pricing (price checked on October 10, 2026).

7. Openpaye

Openpaye is online payroll software built for multi-client production: a tracker shows the status of each payslip, variable items are entered employee by employee or in bulk, and nearly 1,000 automated checks accompany the calculation. It covers 630 collective bargaining agreements and applies updates to those agreements automatically.

For filings, Openpaye runs more than 400 consistency checks when generating DSN files, sends them through its connection with Net-Entreprises (the French government portal for social declarations) and centralizes feedback from the social security funds. It uses the same checking tools as the funds (DSN-FIAB, DSN-FPOC) and loads each month the withholding tax rates sent by the DGFiP, the French public finance directorate. HOPE, its assistant, lets you operate the software in natural language.

Best for: companies that produce their payroll in-house, from the first employee, and accountants or payroll providers who manage their clients' payroll with the PRO offer.

Strengths: a complete DSN chain, from checks to feedback tracking; a free offer for the smallest companies; unlimited Siret numbers (French establishment identifiers) and users in the PRO offer; a SEPA file accepted by every French bank.

Limitations: the free offer stops at 3 employees and 1 Siret; paying employees from the software, the employee portal and team work on the file require the CONFORT offer.

Pricing: free BASIQUE offer up to 3 employees and 1 Siret; CONFORT at €49 excl. VAT per month, plus €5 per month per employee from the 4th employee; the PRO offer, for accountants and payroll providers, links to a detail page (price checked on October 10, 2026).

8. Remote

Remote brings several services together: employer of record (EOR) to recruit in a country where you have no company, multi-country payroll for businesses that already have entities abroad, freelancer management, and PEO (Professional Employer Organization), to hire and manage employees in the United States without setting up an entity in each state. The vendor states that payroll is processed by its in-house teams, with no partner network.

Remote connects to HRIS tools such as Workday, HiBob, BambooHR or Personio, and offers a REST API, webhooks and an MCP, a protocol that gives AI agents secure access to its payroll, contract and compliance data. The vendor says it complies with SOC 2 Type 2 and holds ISO 27001 certification, two information security standards.

Best for: companies that have subsidiaries abroad and want to centralize their payroll, or that hire in a country without setting up an entity there.

Strengths: payroll processed by the vendor's own teams; an MCP to connect your AI agents to your payroll data; integrations with the main HRIS tools.

Limitations: the Payroll offer is aimed at companies that already have legal entities abroad; the PEO is billed in dollars and requires a US bank account.

Pricing: Payroll at €27 per employee per month, EOR at €645 per employee per month, VAT treatment not stated (price checked on October 10, 2026).

9. YeapPaye

YeapPaye, published by Yeap, is independent payroll software developed in France, designed for organizations whose payroll carries high stakes in compliance, volume and integration. Its engine is built on YeapModel, a console where legal, contractual and business rules are described; collective bargaining agreements are kept up to date there through a connection to the Lefebvre Dalloz APIs.

Before calculation, the "Vestibule" checks the data, detects inconsistencies and flags missing data. Authorized users can customize pay items and formulas in a no-code language inspired by Excel. The software generates, checks and sends DSN files, and its API-first architecture, designed to exchange data with the company's other software, makes the link with HRIS tools easier. Hosting is in France.

Best for: accounting firms structuring their payroll department, companies and groups with information system integration needs, integrators and payroll providers.

Strengths: payroll rules that are readable and auditable; data checks before production; open APIs.

Limitations: the vendor positions YeapPaye for a long-term strategy, with carefully managed support; no amount is published.

Pricing: prices not published; the site advertises pricing based on the actual volume of payslips.

10. QuickPaie

QuickPaie lets you create payslips online and pay for them one at a time, with no subscription; the former quickpaie.fr address redirects to quickpaie.com. Three solutions share the same pricing: the Générateur, to preview a payslip without an account, Express, which adds 16 free HR documents (contracts, employment certificate, final settlement statement), and Business, which includes the DSN, payroll accounting and the staff register.

Business supports five types of DSN, automatic filing on Net-Entreprises or with the MSA (the French agricultural social security fund), and five types of feedback. The calculation covers more than 30 contributions, withholding tax and the net social amount. QuickPaie also handles payroll in France's overseas territories, with the LODEOM exemption (a contribution relief specific to overseas employers), and is available as iOS and Android apps.

Best for: the president of a SASU (a French single-shareholder company) running it alone, very small businesses and one-off simulation or checking needs.

Strengths: a free, unlimited preview before any payment; DSN, accounting and HR documents included at no extra cost in Business; a per-payslip price that decreases with volume.

Limitations: the DSN is reserved for Business; Business can be paid only by credit card; support goes through tickets.

Pricing: from €9.90 excl. VAT for one payslip down to €3.90 excl. VAT per payslip from 13 payslips, plus 20% VAT (price checked on October 10, 2026).

What should you check before you sign?

  1. The full DSN journey. Ask to see generation, checks, submission and tracking of feedback from the social security bodies, and how the tool alerts you to an anomaly before it triggers a reminder from the Urssaf.
  2. Your collective bargaining agreement. Check that it is configured, who applies its updates and how fast, especially if your sector has specific rules on absences or working time.
  3. Who is responsible for what. Depending on the offer, you, your accounting firm or the vendor produces and approves payroll: get it in writing who corrects an error and at what price.
  4. The billing unit. Per employee, per payslip or flat fee, with or without a base subscription, setup fees or billed adjustments: simulate your real headcount over twelve months.
  5. Switching from your current tool. Ask how year-to-date totals, leave balances and withholding tax rates are carried over, and in which month the first payroll can go out with no double entry.

Where does this ranking draw the line?

This ranking is based on what payroll vendors write on their own websites, read in October 2026. We produced no payslip and filed no DSN with these tools: the accuracy of the calculation under your collective agreement and the responsiveness of support are best checked in a demo, ideally on a test payroll from your own company. Some pages could not be read in full; when a review lacks information you need, ask the vendor.

The scope has its boundaries. Sage, EBP and Cegid have their place in our ranking of accounting software, and HR tools in which payroll is only one part belong to a separate HR ranking: their absence here says nothing about their quality. Your headcount, your collective agreement, your presence abroad and the role of your accounting firm matter more than the rank. We will update this list when offers or filing obligations change.

How does a payroll firm get found by future clients?

Good payroll software secures your payslips, your DSN filings and the feedback from the social security bodies. Bringing in new client files is outside its reach: a company director who wants to outsource payroll may put the question to Google or to an AI like ChatGPT, and your firm needs to appear in those answers, with pages that cover the collective agreements you know inside out, your sector and your closing deadlines.

Sorank automates this work. The software analyzes your site and your visibility in AI assistants, identifies the keywords your future clients type, then writes and publishes articles that cite their sources and contain internal links. Each article can stay as a draft in your CMS while it is reviewed, which helps when writing about employment law, and you see prompt by prompt when an AI mentions your firm.

The features are described in detail on the Sorank GEO software page. If you want to know how your firm could appear in the answers given by Google and AI assistants, book a call.

Conclusion

The right payroll software depends first on two answers: who produces payroll in your company, and in how many countries you employ staff. The ten solutions in this ranking cover these situations, from a payslip paid for one at a time to multi-country payroll processed by the vendor.

If you are hiring your first employee and want to delegate, look at Payfit, whose Starter plan is reserved for the first payroll. If you produce payroll in-house or for clients, Openpaye offers a free plan up to 3 employees and a PRO offer for accounting firms, and covers the DSN from checks to feedback tracking. If your company already has entities abroad, Remote displays the price of its multi-country payroll in euros. In all three cases, ask for a demo on your own collective bargaining agreement before signing.

Frequently asked questions

What is DSN-compatible payroll software?

It is software able to translate payslip information into DSN data (France's monthly payroll declaration), according to Service Public Entreprendre, which considers it necessary to file the declaration. The DSN is then filed on net-entreprises.fr for the general scheme, or on the MSA website for the agricultural scheme. It can also be entrusted to a third-party filer, such as a chartered accountant.

When must the DSN be filed?

Once a month: by the 15th of the month following the pay period at the latest for a company with fewer than 50 employees, and by the 5th at the latest from 50 employees upward. A period of sick leave or the end of a contract is reported through a dedicated DSN within 5 business days of the event.

What does a company risk if it files its DSN late?

Service Public Entreprendre states a penalty of €60 per employee per month of delay, capped at €6,008 per company per year if the delay does not exceed 5 days. Failing to file exposes the company to €20.02 per employee. For an employee left out, a correction within 30 days of the filing avoids the penalty.
