Compare the 10 best advertising agencies in Sydney on four buyer criteria: advertising at the core, named campaigns, own creative and not SEO-only.

On this page
In short
these are our ten advertising agencies in Sydney that show their own advertising work and name the clients behind it. Innocean Australia and Cummins & Partners are larger creative agencies with a Sydney office, Emotive and Eardrum concept and produce their own film and audio work, and DK Advertising builds above-the-line campaigns from North Sydney. Department-S and AW are boutique teams, Digital Minds Group combines strategy, buying and creative, Hello Social runs social advertising linked to content, and G Squared leads with paid media. The deciding criterion is not a rating or a project count. It is whether the agency shows a Sydney address, names the campaigns it made and explains what it does itself.

Choosing among advertising agencies in Sydney means choosing among a dense market. The Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 2814778 actively trading businesses in Australia at 30 June 2026, and New South Wales recorded an increase of 26057 businesses in 2025-26, according to its Counts of Australian Businesses release published on 18 August 2026. Each of those businesses, sooner or later, needs a partner that can plan, make and place advertising.
A campaign for a Sydney audience has to fit the city where it runs, and the agency needs to know its neighbourhoods, its media habits and its local clients. An agency that knows this context can plan the channels, the timing and the way a local buyer compares one brand with another, and an agency working only from elsewhere may not. That is why this ranking applies one filter first: only agencies whose own site shows an address, an office or a team in Sydney can appear.
The market is also moving quickly. According to the IAB Australia Internet Advertising Revenue Report, prepared by PwC Australia and reported by Mediaweek on 26 May 2026, internet advertising spend in Australia reached 4.9 billion dollars in the first quarter of 2026, up 15.3% on the same quarter a year earlier. Every extra dollar that moves to digital channels is a budget that an agency has to plan, buy and report on.
Four fears come up again and again, and each one can be checked before signing.
1. Paying for campaigns they cannot reuse. If the source files, scripts and design files stay on the agency's own systems, every new version becomes a new invoice. Ask who owns the finished creative before the first brief.
2. Media that is bought without a clear trail. A quote that bundles agency fees, media and production into one figure makes it hard to see what the money actually bought. Ask for the media plan and the invoices from each platform.
3. Depending on one person who disappears. Many boutique teams are excellent, but a campaign run by a single senior person has no backup when that person is busy or gone. Ask who else knows the account and where the files are stored.
4. A quote that leaves out what comes after launch. Reporting, extra rounds of creative, new versions and changes to the media plan are often missing from the first figure. Ask which of these the quote includes, and whether GST is added on top.
The ranking applies one filter and then four criteria. All of them were fixed before we checked who meets them, and all of them rest only on what each agency publishes on its own site.
Filter: a stated Sydney presence. The site must show a Sydney address, office or team. Agencies with a national or foreign base and no office in the city do not appear, even when they serve Sydney clients.
1. Advertising at the core of the offer. Ad creation, media buying or paid advertising must appear among the first services on the site, not as one line among many.
2. Named clients or campaigns. Clients or campaigns that a buyer can check by visiting the website.
3. Their own ads, not only account management. The agency conceives its own ads, spots or content, and does not only run someone else's account.
4. Not an SEO agency. Advertising must not be a cover for search optimisation. An agency whose main business is SEO does not qualify.
The text we reviewed was checked in November 2026, and this page is scheduled for review every 90 days, because agencies in a city this size change names, teams and offers often. What we deliberately did not do: we did not reuse the Google ratings, review counts or satisfaction percentages that some sites display. Where an agency states its own project totals or awards, we report them only as that agency's own claim, and we did not use them to rank. None of these figures can be verified from the outside, and a claim that an agency is the best in its city is only the agency's own claim.

Innocean Australia presents itself as INNOCEAN Australia, with an address in Surry Hills. Its homepage lists services that include brand strategy, communications strategy, creative ideas, content marketing, social media and integrated production. Named work includes Carnival Cruise, Kia, Tasman Town and Play Away.
Best for: brands that want brand, communication and creative work under one team. Its published services focus on strategy and creative, so ask who buys the media and how that spend is reported.

Cummins & Partners calls itself an independent creative agency with offices in Melbourne, Sydney and New York, and its Sydney office is in Paddington. Its homepage says it unites creative and media to tell the whole story, and that it has helped shape Australian brands for more than 30 years. Named work includes Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Royal Flying Doctors, Kettle Chips and Road Safety Advisory Council.
Best for: larger brands that want creative and media thinking from an agency with a Sydney office and a national reach. Its offices are in Melbourne, Sydney and New York, so confirm who will lead the Sydney account day to day.

Emotive describes itself as an independent creative agency and production company, founded in 2015 and based in Coogee, Sydney. Its homepage shows ideas made for Activision (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4), THE ICONIC, Google Pixel and Breville, and its news section lists its latest launches.
Best for: brands that want ideas, film and production handled by one studio. Its client list is mostly consumer brands, so ask for a case study in your category before the first call.

Eardrum is an advertising agency in Pyrmont that specialises in audio: radio advertising, podcast and streaming ads, sonic identity, voice casting and voice directing. It says it has spent 30 years becoming the world's most awarded audio-specialist advertising agency. Its work list includes Hendrick's Gin, Uber x Coles and Kit Kat.
Best for: brands that want radio, podcast or sonic identity work. Audio is its speciality, so for a campaign built mainly on television or print, ask how it coordinates with other media partners.

DK Advertising is a creative advertising agency with an address in North Sydney. It says it offers above and below the line advertising and that it gives each brand a spark. Its homepage lists work for Red Cross, Momentum Life, Wesley Mission and OzCar, covering design, social and TV commercials.
Best for: brands that want television, social and design work from one agency. The homepage we read carries 2023 timestamps, so confirm its current client list before you shortlist it.

Department-S calls itself an independent, boutique advertising agency based in Pymble, on Sydney's North Shore. Its services are creative ideas and design, media planning and buying, and marketing support. Its news section covers an Ultimate BMW Experience and a creative campaign for Lifeline H2H.
Best for: local and national brands that want a small team with senior account management. The site shows no prices, so ask for a written scope with the people named in it.

AW is a boutique advertising agency in Surry Hills. Its homepage says it thinks big on everything from brand to digital marketing, creative and design. Its work page shows the Brisbane Broncos, Cancer Council, The Australian, Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation and SPOT Buy Now Pay Later.
Best for: brands that want a small team across brand, digital and creative work. Its published work leans toward sport and public-interest clients, so ask for examples in your own sector.

Digital Minds Group describes itself as an independent, full-service media and creative agency with an address in North Sydney. Its homepage lists strategy and planning, media buying, creative and production, analytics and operations, and SEO and AEO. Named clients include Luxury Escapes, Kip + Co, Tuiss Blinds Online and Servcorp. The homepage also claims the 2026 Mumbrella Marketing Agency of the Year title, which is the agency's own statement.
Best for: companies that want strategy, buying and creative under one roof. The site lists SEO among its capabilities, so confirm that paid media remains the main focus for your budget.

Hello Social is a digital marketing and social media agency in Surry Hills. It says it delivers integrated content, ads and more for global brands, and it presents itself as socially led. Its case list includes Uber Eats, Your Local Food Fest, NSW Government, Amazon Prime and Melbourne Cup.
Best for: brands that want social advertising linked to content and public campaigns. Its cases are mostly consumer and government work, so ask for a B2B example before you commit.

G Squared is a digital performance agency in Chippendale. Its homepage lists paid media first, followed by AI SEO, creative and web. It shows the Meriton Suites project, which it describes as driving bookings through targeted paid media, and it says its headline figures come from its own client data.
Best for: brands that want paid media, creative and web work judged on results. The site shows one named project, so ask for references and for how each campaign is measured.
The four criteria were chosen before we checked who meets them, and each cell reflects what the agency publishes on its own site. "Not published" means the text we reviewed does not show that information, not that the agency lacks it. Ask the agencies directly before drawing conclusions from a gap.

Three questions separate a shortlist faster than any portfolio, and each one matches one of the fears above.
1. Who owns the finished creative, the media accounts and the audience data? The answer should be in writing and should let you leave the agency without losing your campaign assets. If the files stay on the agency's systems, ask where they go when the contract ends.
2. How is media bought, and how is it invoiced? A quote should separate agency fees, media spend and production. Ask whether media is bought at cost or with a margin, and who receives each platform's invoice.
3. Which result will be measured, and against what starting point? Agree on one or two indicators you already track, such as enquiries, appointments or sales, and record their level before the first campaign. Without a baseline, no report can show whether the campaign worked.
Three limits, stated clearly, because a ranking that claims to settle everything is not usable.
It is built only on public information. We read what each agency publishes on its homepage and checked the Sydney filter. We did not visit any client, watch any campaign run or verify a single project. An agency that communicates little and works very well will be underrated here.
It cannot know your context. A professional services firm in North Sydney, a retailer in Surry Hills and a health brand in Paddington do not need the same partner. The "Best for" lines matter more than the order of the list.
It ages. Agencies merge, change names and move offices, and the Sydney filter depends on what each site says today. The DK Advertising homepage we read carries 2023 timestamps, which is exactly how a list drifts out of date. This page is reviewed every 90 days.
This is the honest part, on a page published by a software company. An agency beats software on everything that requires understanding a client's market, making choices about tone and structure, and taking responsibility for a result it does not fully control. Knowing which audience a campaign must win first, deciding what to cut from a brief, and writing a message that sounds like the brand rather than a template: none of that is automatable today, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling you something. In a city like Sydney, a local team such as the agencies above knows which neighbourhoods, media and clients a campaign has to win, and a tool does not hold that context. For a broader view of when hiring an agency makes more sense than running a channel in house, see our agency guide.
What no agency project solves on its own is what happens after launch. AI assistants and search engines read more than the homepage: they draw on guides, comparison pages and articles, and a site that is well designed but never updated remains a weak source for them.
That is what Sorank works on. It is software, not an agency: keyword research, article writing, internal linking, publishing to your site and tracking how often you appear in the answers AI assistants give. That last part is not decoration. Pricing starts at 99€ per month, with 3 days offered and a card required at sign up. If you would rather talk it through first, book a call.
If you want a single recommendation: Emotive if you want ideas, film and production from one studio, Eardrum if audio is the medium, Digital Minds Group if you want strategy, buying and creative with one team, and Department-S if you want a small boutique team that is easy to reach. Whichever you choose, ask who owns the creative and how the media is invoiced before you ask what the campaign will look like.
If you are still weighing an agency against doing the work in house, our agency guide sets out the trade-offs, and the checks above will tell you quickly which Sydney agency deserves a second call.
Sydney has more credible names than a top 10 can hold. These agencies also show a Sydney address on their own sites, and each line below comes from what they publish about themselves.

This ranking reflects my own experience and opinion as an SEO expert with more than 7 years in the field. It is based on verified facts, but the order itself is my personal view.
Get the answer in writing before the first brief. Creative files, ad platform accounts and audience data should stay in your name, so you can leave the agency without losing your campaign assets.
A quote should separate agency fees, media spend and production. Ask whether media is bought at cost or with a margin, and who receives each platform's invoice.
Agree on one or two indicators you already track, such as enquiries, appointments or sales, and record their level before the first campaign. Without a baseline, no report can show whether it worked.
