Auckland's 10 best web design agencies, checked against each site: Auckland address, named clients, published methods, and questions to ask before signing.

In short
Atlas Studios leads our ranking of the best web design agencies in Auckland for mid-market brands on Shopify Plus that want an ongoing growth partner. Flight Digital suits organisations that need an editorial or e-commerce platform built to last beyond launch, and Front&Back pairs websites with branding for smaller companies. Engage Digital ties its sites to lead generation, while CyberWorkshop is the choice when a store has to run on MYOB or Acumatica. Elemental Digital and Creative Web Designs focus on Shopify stores and migrations, Forge Creative offers a three-step web design process, Fuel Design runs an in-house team across Auckland, and Born Digital builds made-to-measure software and sites. The deciding criterion is not a rating or a project count. It is whether the agency shows an Auckland address, names the sites it built and explains what happens after launch.

Choosing among the web design agencies in Auckland means choosing in a city that drives much of New Zealand's economy. According to the Auckland Economic Monitor 2024, published by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited on 29 July 2024, the region holds 33 per cent of New Zealand's population and contributes 38 per cent of the national economy. Every one of those businesses, sooner or later, has to decide who builds its website.
An Auckland website has to work for buyers who compare a company with its neighbours in the same city, on the same phones, in the same afternoon. An agency that can meet you in person in Auckland, knows the retail, trades and B2B buyers of the region, and answers within your working day is easier to manage than one based elsewhere. That is why this ranking applies one filter first: only agencies whose own site shows an address, an office or a team in Auckland can appear.
The market is also crowded. Many of the agencies on this list are small studios or one-person businesses, and the Auckland region alone holds a large share of the country's economic activity: Stats NZ's regional GDP release for the year ended March 2025, published on 24 March 2026 puts it at 37.5 per cent of national GDP, so a shortlist is the only practical way to start. The Auckland Economic Monitor figures above are the context for that shortlist: a large local market, served by many small specialists.
Four fears come up again and again, and each one can be checked before signing.
1. Paying for a store or a site they cannot change. A Shopify store or a website built on an account the agency controls leaves the company dependent on its builder for every change. Ask who holds the domain, the hosting account and the Shopify store owner account before the first invoice, and whether the store can move with you.
2. A quote that leaves out what the total really is. Hosting, domain renewals, updates, support and GST are often missing from the first figure. A quote that does not state whether GST is included is not yet comparable with another one, so ask for the total, with what it covers after launch, in writing.
3. Depending on one person who disappears. Many small studios in Auckland are excellent, but a project run by a single person has no backup when that person is ill, busy or gone. One testimonial on this list praises the patience of a named contact; ask who else knows your project and where the files are stored.
4. A launch with no way to tell whether it worked. A new site can look right and still bring no enquiries or sales. Without a starting level recorded before the launch, nobody can show what changed, so ask how the agency plans to measure the result.
Four criteria, fixed before we checked who meets them, and applied only to what each agency publishes on its own site.
1. A stated Auckland presence. The site must show an Auckland address, office or team. Agencies with a national or overseas base and no office in the city do not appear, even when they serve Auckland clients.
2. Website building at the core of the offer. Creating sites or online shops is a real service on the homepage, not one line among hosting, print and social media.
3. Named clients or projects. Clients, case studies or projects that a buyer can check by visiting the website.
4. A readable method. Steps, principles, ownership of the site or support after launch, published on the site.
The text we reviewed was checked in November 2026, and this page is scheduled for review every 90 days, because local agencies change names, teams and offers often. What we deliberately did not do: we did not reuse the Google ratings, project counts, satisfaction percentages or "best agency" claims that some sites display. None of them can be verified from the outside, and a claim that an agency is the best in its city is only the agency's own claim.

Atlas Studios describes itself as a commerce growth partner for mid-market brands across New Zealand and Australia. Its office is at Smales Farm in Takapuna, Auckland, and its services include Shopify Plus builds, theme builds, UX and UI design, conversion rate optimisation, Klaviyo retention marketing and POS. Its homepage links client names such as Two Dudes and Proferlo to revenue results of 329% and 187%, which are the agency's own figures.
Best for: mid-market brands on Shopify Plus that want a retainer for conversion and retention work. The results are the agency's own, so ask to see the store analytics before relying on them.

Flight Digital is a digital agency based at Beresford Square in Auckland, working on strategy, interface design, site and e-commerce development, and search optimisation. Its featured work includes a scalable ecommerce system for the coffee brand Allpress Espresso, an editorial platform for The Big Idea, and a platform for Amnesty International Aotearoa.
Best for: organisations that need an e-commerce or editorial platform built to keep performing after launch. The site shows project summaries but no prices or timelines, so ask for a written scope.

Front&Back is a creative studio based on New North Road in Kingsland, Auckland, working end to end across websites, branding, print and custom web apps. Its homepage names projects including TallyHo, a time-tracking app for freelancers, Magrette Timepieces and Loading Docs, and promises to make WordPress work for its clients.
Best for: smaller companies and creators who want a website and a brand from one studio. The offer also covers print and apps, so confirm who will build and maintain the site day to day.

Engage Digital has its office on Parnell Road in Auckland and lists website design and development, e-commerce website design, SEO and growth marketing among its services. Its named clients include Blue Wing Honda, Raven Products, My Goodness Gift Baskets, Sharp New Zealand and NZCU Auckland.
Best for: businesses that want a site tied to enquiries and an ongoing marketing plan. The site offers marketing packages, so ask what each one includes and for how long before signing.

CyberWorkshop is based in Parnell, Auckland, and presents itself as a Shopify Plus partner and a Shopify and MYOB premium developer partner. It says it has spent more than 10 years connecting MYOB Exo and Acumatica to Shopify for manufacturers, distributors and retailers. Its named projects include Allied Medical, Music Planet, Carpet Court, Skullcandy and 365 Salon Group.
Best for: wholesalers, distributors and manufacturers whose store must run on their accounting or ERP system. The "most verified partner reviews" claim is the agency's own, so ask for the integration plan in writing.

Elemental Digital is a Shopify agency at Pakenham Street West in Auckland. It builds Shopify websites for New Zealand brands and offers audits and integrations. Its testimonials name Cycleways, All Good NZ and Natural Zest Skincare, and describe a new Shopify site built together with the migration of an older one.
Best for: brands moving an existing shop to Shopify or migrating an older website. The testimonials are published by the agency, so ask to speak with one of the clients.

Forge Creative is a full-service web design agency in Mt Eden, Auckland, providing branding, web development, graphic design and digital marketing. Its homepage presents a three-step web design and development process and links to case studies and live sites.
Best for: companies that want a website, a brand and a clear design process from one local team. The case studies are linked from the homepage, so check the ones closest to your sector before the first call.

Fuel Design is based at Orewa Beach, Auckland, and says it has been designing and building websites for New Zealand businesses since 2002. Its in-house team works on custom websites and eCommerce stores on Webflow, WordPress and Shopify, and serves businesses from North Auckland and Rodney to the North Shore, the CBD and West Auckland.
Best for: Auckland businesses that want a custom site or store built by one in-house team. The homepage promises a PageSpeed score of 80% or more; that promise is the agency's own, so ask what it covers in writing.

Born Digital is based on Sale Street in Auckland and presents itself as an agile software and website development agency. It offers made-to-measure digital solutions and publishes its site in English and Te Reo Māori.
Best for: organisations that want software or a website built to a defined process, with a development team in Auckland. The client projects are not named in the text we reviewed, so ask for references before signing.

Creative Web Designs is a Shopify specialist in Sunnyhills, Auckland, and says it has been a Shopify partner since 2015. Its services cover Shopify setups and migrations, refreshes and 2.0 upgrades, support packages and optimisation. A testimonial from Kate Slavin of Ironclad Pan Co. praises the patience and care of its contact.
Best for: small merchants who want one specialist to build and look after a Shopify store after launch. Ask who else would work on your store if the main contact were unavailable.
The four criteria were chosen before we checked who meets them, and each cell reflects what the agency publishes on its own site. "Not published" means the text we reviewed does not show that information, not that the agency lacks it. Ask the agencies directly before drawing conclusions from a gap.

Three questions separate a shortlist faster than any portfolio, and each one matches one of the fears above.
1. Who holds the files, the domain, the hosting account and the Shopify store owner account? The answer should be in writing and should let you leave the agency without losing the site. If the store sits on the agency's account, ask what happens to it if the contract ends.
2. Does the quote include GST, and what is covered after launch? The total should say whether GST is included, and it should list hosting, updates, support and domain renewals, with the price of each after the first year.
3. Which result will be measured, and against what starting point? Agree before the start on one or two indicators you already track, such as enquiries, sales or bookings, and record their level on day one. Without a baseline, no report can show whether the new site worked.
Three limits, stated clearly, because a ranking that claims to settle everything is not usable.
It is built only on public information. We read what each agency publishes on its own site and checked the Auckland filter against it. We did not visit any client, test any site in a browser, or verify a single project. An agency that communicates little and works very well will be underrated here.
It cannot know your context. A law firm in the CBD, a trades business in Manukau and a fashion label in Ponsonby do not need the same partner. The "Best for" lines matter more than the order of the list.
It ages. Agencies in a city this size merge, change their names and move offices, and the Auckland filter depends on what each site says today. This page is reviewed every 90 days, and the review date is stated in the method.
This is the honest part, on a page published by a software company. An agency beats software on everything that requires understanding a client's market, making choices about tone and structure, and taking responsibility for a result it does not fully control. Knowing which page a visitor needs first, deciding what to cut from a brief, and writing text that sounds like the company rather than a template: none of that is automatable today, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling you something. For a broader view of when hiring an agency makes more sense than running the work in house, see our agency guide.
What no agency project solves on its own is what happens after launch. AI assistants and search engines read more than the homepage: they draw on guides, comparison pages and articles, and a site that is well designed but never updated remains a weak source for them.
That is what Sorank works on. It is software, not an agency: keyword research, article writing, internal linking, publishing to your site and tracking how often you appear in the answers AI assistants give. That last part is not decoration. Pricing starts at 99€ per month, with 3 days offered and a card required at sign up. If you would rather talk it through first, book a call.
If you want a single recommendation: Atlas Studios for a Shopify Plus store that needs an ongoing growth partner, CyberWorkshop if the store must connect to MYOB or Acumatica, Front&Back if you want a website and a brand from one studio, and Creative Web Designs for a smaller Shopify store that needs a specialist after launch. Whichever you choose, ask who holds the files and the store account before you ask what the site will look like.
If you are still weighing an agency against doing the work in house, our agency guide sets out the trade-offs, and the checks above will tell you quickly which Auckland agency deserves a second call.
Auckland has more credible names than a top 10 can hold. These agencies also show an Auckland base on their own sites, and each line below comes from what they publish about themselves.

|---|---|---|
| beweb | beweb.co.nz | Auckland CBD developers of bespoke web applications, CMS sites based on Savvy CMS, intranets and extranets, with SEO |
| Click n Call | clickncall.co.nz | Epsom agency for trades and small businesses: website design, SEO, Google Ads and social ads |
| CubeMedia | cubemedia.nz | Digital agency with an Auckland office in Botany Downs and another in Hamilton: website design, SEO, digital marketing and brand strategy |
| Edition | editiongroup.com | Design-led technology studio in Grey Lynn: digital products, brand identities and marketing websites for technology companies |
| FatWeb | fatweb.co.nz | Digital agency with offices in Auckland and Christchurch: website design and development, SEO, Google Ads and hosting, with 20 years of experience |
| Flipmind | flipmind.com | Software and web studio on Vincent Street in Auckland: ecommerce consulting and development, website design, AI and mobile apps |
| Flume | flume.agency | Digital transformation agency on Albert Street in Auckland, formerly Hatch Web and Design: websites, digital platforms, customer experience and branding |

| DPB Creations | dpbcreations.com | Independent developer based on the Hibiscus Coast: custom websites, ecommerce, POS and inventory integrations |

This ranking reflects my own experience and opinion as an SEO expert with more than 7 years in the field. It is based on verified facts, but the order itself is my personal view.
The answer should be in writing and should let you leave the agency without losing the site. Ask before the first invoice.
A quote that does not say whether GST is included is not comparable with another one. Ask what hosting, updates and support cost after the site goes live.
Agree on one or two indicators you already track, such as enquiries or sales, and record their level on day one.
