Looking for a local rank tracker? We compare BrightLocal, Local Falcon, Whitespark, Semrush, SE Ranking and AccuRanker: grids, map pack, AI answers and limits.

In short
BrightLocal is the best local rank tracker for most small businesses and agencies in 2026, because it combines grid tracking, classic rank tracking, citations and reviews in one tool. Local Falcon is the specialist of geo-grid scans and now also measures visibility in AI answers, Whitespark gives the deepest competitor view, Semrush and SE Ranking suit teams that want local tracking inside a full SEO suite, and AccuRanker is the choice for tracking thousands of keywords by city or postal code.

A local rank tracker answers a question that a classic rank tracker cannot: where does my business appear when someone searches from this street, this neighbourhood or this suburb? Local results depend heavily on the searcher's position, so a single national position says very little about a plumber, a dentist or a restaurant. If you need the basics first, our guide to rank tracking explains how ranking measurement works in general.
We ranked the tools on how precisely and usefully they show local visibility. The criteria:
What it does. BrightLocal combines a Local Search Grid, which simulates searches from precise coordinates across your area, with a more traditional Local Rank Tracker. The same platform manages local citations, review monitoring, Google Business Profile audits and white label reports.
Who it is for. Small businesses, multi-location brands and agencies that want one tool for most local SEO tasks.
Strengths. Broad local feature set, both grid and classic tracking, solid reporting for clients, and a long track record in local search research.
Limits. Grid scans are counted by usage, so large grids on many keywords add up quickly. Specialists such as Local Falcon offer more grid options and more AI coverage.
What it does. Local Falcon is built around geo-grid scans, with grid sizes from 3x3 to 21x21 points and adjustable radius, for Google Maps and Apple Maps. It also tracks how often a business is mentioned in AI answers (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Grok) from different points of a city, and added an agent that helps with Google Business Profile tasks.
Who it is for. Local SEO specialists and agencies that want the most detailed picture of map visibility, now extended to AI answers.
Strengths. Very flexible grids, clear heatmaps, competitor reports per scan, and one of the most advanced local AI visibility offers.
Limits. It focuses on rank and visibility measurement: citations and review management are lighter than in BrightLocal. Usage based pricing requires planning scan frequency.
What it does. Whitespark's Local Ranking Grids track positions up to the top 100 in local results, far beyond the three map pack spots, and compute a visibility score. You can remove grid points outside your real service area and follow competitors' rankings, reviews and profile changes over time.
Who it is for. Agencies and businesses in competitive local markets that want to understand exactly who wins where.
Strengths. Depth of tracking, competitor monitoring on every grid point, and Whitespark's well known expertise in citations and local ranking factors.
Limits. The interface is more technical than BrightLocal's, and its tools are sold as separate modules rather than one bundle.
What it does. Semrush offers two layers: Position Tracking, which follows organic and local pack positions by city or postal code, and the Semrush Local toolkit, whose Map Rank Tracker draws grid heatmaps of Google Maps rankings and competitors. The Local toolkit also handles Google Business Profile optimization and listings.
Who it is for. Marketing teams and agencies that already use Semrush for keywords, audits and competitors.
Strengths. Local data next to every other SEO dataset, competitor heatmaps, and one login for national and local work.
Limits. The local toolkit is an add-on per location on top of a Semrush subscription, which makes it expensive if you only need local tracking.
What it does. SE Ranking tracks keyword positions by location, including the map pack, and its local marketing module adds geo-grid map tracking, listings management and review monitoring in the same account as its rank tracker and AI visibility tools.
Who it is for. Small agencies and freelancers who want a complete SEO platform at a lower cost than the market leaders.
Strengths. Good value, simple interface, local and national tracking in one place, and white label reports.
Limits. The local module is younger than BrightLocal or Local Falcon, with fewer grid and analysis options for demanding local specialists.
What it does. AccuRanker is a fast, large scale rank tracker that can track positions by country, state, city, postal code or exact address, and separates local pack results from organic results.
Who it is for. Large sites, multi-location brands and agencies that track thousands of keywords and need fresh data quickly.
Strengths. Speed, volume, precise location settings and strong data exports and integrations.
Limits. It does not draw geo-grid heatmaps around a business, so it shows less of the street by street picture that map visibility requires. It is aimed at larger budgets.
| Tool | Best for | Main strengths | Main limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| BrightLocal | All-in-one local SEO | Grid and classic tracking, citations, reviews, reports | Large grids add up quickly |

| SE Ranking | Value for agencies | Local, map and national tracking in one account | Fewer advanced grid options |
| AccuRanker | High keyword volume | Speed, postal code and address precision | No geo-grid heatmaps |
Track the map pack from several points of your area, your organic positions by city, and the conversions that follow. A complete local tracking plan covers:
Rankings only matter if they turn into customers. Our local SEO ROI calculator helps you estimate what better local visibility is worth for your business.
Because Google ranks local results mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and distance changes with every searcher. Google's own help page on how local results are ranked names these three factors. A business can hold the first map spot a few hundred metres from its address and disappear from the map pack on the other side of town, even for the same query. That is why a single "position" means little in local search, and why grid trackers simulate the search from many points. Prominence, on the other hand, is what you can improve: reviews, citations, links and well structured pages for each service and area.
Choose according to the number of locations, the depth of analysis you need and the tools you already pay for.
Whatever the tool, keep the same settings (grid size, radius, keywords, scan day) from one scan to the next, otherwise the comparisons mean nothing. For national keywords without a local intent, a classic tool is enough: see our comparison of the best keyword rank checking tools.
The best local rank tracker is the one that shows your visibility point by point and helps you act on it. BrightLocal is the safest all-in-one choice, Local Falcon leads on grids and local AI visibility, Whitespark on competitor depth, Semrush and SE Ranking on integration with a full SEO suite, and AccuRanker on volume. Sorank is our own software and is not a local rank tracker: it writes and publishes SEO articles and tracks whether the AIs cite your brand, which can complement one of these tools once your local foundations are in place.

A local rank tracker measures where a business appears in Google results for searches made from a precise location: the map pack, Google Maps and the local organic results. The most useful ones run geo-grid scans, simulating the same search from many points around the business, because local rankings change from one street to the next.
Grid trackers are accurate for the exact coordinates they simulate, but real results also depend on the device, the search history and the precise wording of the query. Treat a scan as a reliable snapshot of trends and relative visibility against competitors, and compare scans made with the same settings over time.
Partly. The Performance report of your Google Business Profile shows how many people found and contacted you, and manual searches from a phone give quick spot checks. Several trackers also offer trials or pay per scan options. For regular, comparable measurements across a whole service area, a paid tool remains necessary.
