Moz has Domain Authority, Semrush has Authority Score: every tool has its own figure, and none of them match. So you never really know whether your site is getting stronger.
Sorank picks one reference and sticks to it: the Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR), on a scale of 0 to 100, shown in your Sorank account with no Ahrefs account needed. DR measures the strength of your backlink profile: how many unique referring domains link to you, and how strong those sites are. The scale is logarithmic, so moving from 20 to 30 is far easier than moving from 70 to 80.
Is 38 a good score? On its own, a DR says little. There is no universal good Domain Rating, only the gap between you and the sites competing for the same keywords.
Look up the DR of your main competitors and you know the gap to close. Domain Rating is a score from 0 to 100 created by Ahrefs. It measures the strength of a website's backlink profile: how many unique websites link to it, how strong those sites are, and how many other sites they link to. It does not take traffic, spam or domain age into account. The higher the score, the stronger the profile.
"Domain authority" is the general idea of how strong a website is in search. Each tool measures it its own way: Domain Authority (DA) is the Moz score, Domain Rating (DR) is the Ahrefs one, and Authority Score is the Semrush one, which also weighs organic traffic and spam signals. The numbers are not interchangeable, so always compare sites with the same metric. Sorank uses the Ahrefs Domain Rating.
There is no universal good score. A Domain Rating is good when it is equal to or higher than that of the sites competing for the same keywords as you. Because the scale is logarithmic, each point gets harder to gain as you climb: going from 20 to 30 takes far less than going from 70 to 80.
Because it is the authority score most widely used to evaluate and compare websites, including by people who buy and sell links. Using one reference avoids juggling contradictory numbers. Keep in mind that Google does not use DR: it is a reliable way to compare link strength, not a ranking factor.

First, whether you lost links: a deleted page or a site that went offline lowers your number of referring domains. Then, whether the sites linking to you lost strength themselves. A dip can also come from Ahrefs updating its index, so do not react to a single change, and keep earning relevant links.
It helps indirectly. Authority is one of the signals that help pages rank, and AI assistants that search the web often rely on pages that rank well and are cited elsewhere.
