Table of contents

Choosing a website builder means choosing the tool that will carry your showcase site, your online store or your bookings for several years. This ranking compares ten site builders on how easy they are to pick up without coding, the features useful to your business, the search optimization settings and the clarity of their prices. The profiles rely only on the pages each vendor publishes, consulted in October 2026. The article ends with a comparison table and the points to check before you subscribe.

The 10 best website builder software in 2027

  1. Wix: for a full website (store, bookings, blog) created by AI or from a template.
  2. WordPress.com: for a hosted, managed WordPress site.
  3. Squarespace: for independents who want a website, appointments and invoices.
  4. Webflow: for marketing teams and designers who want control over design and CMS.
  5. Jimdo: for independents who want a website, bookings and payments in the same place.
  6. e-monsite: for nonprofits and small organizations that want to start for free.
  7. SiteW: for micro-businesses and nonprofits that want a tool hosted in France.
  8. Webnode: for tradespeople who want an AI-built website and an online store.
  9. WebSelf: for a website generated from a few questions, hosting included.
  10. Framer: for designers who want to design their site with an AI agent.

Why does the choice of a website builder matter in 2027?

Since June 28, 2025, selling online comes with accessibility rules for people with disabilities. Service Public Entreprendre, the official French government site for businesses, notes that new accessibility obligations have applied since that date to products and services, including e-commerce, under a European directive transposed into French law. A company with fewer than 10 employees and annual revenue or a balance sheet total below 2 million euros can request an exemption online.

The site must also carry mandatory notices: for a sole proprietor, the official list includes in particular the RCS number (France's trade and companies register), the VAT number and the identity of the web host.

Website builders help you to varying degrees on these topics: legal notices provided, GDPR settings, accessibility features. Check what the tool takes care of, and what you will be able to take with you (text, images, products) if you ever switch platforms.

How did we rank these website builders?

The rank rests on four criteria, assessed using only the vendors' public information. In October 2026, we consulted for each tool its homepage, its pricing and its features page when we found one, with no paid subscription and no partnership.

1. Building without code. Visual editor, templates, AI site generation, writing assistance.

2. What the site can do for your business. Online store, appointment booking, blog, invoices, members area, forms.

3. Search optimization settings. Page titles and descriptions, custom URLs, redirects, sitemap, features for visibility in AI assistants.

4. Clarity for a French buyer. French-language site, prices published in euros, whether prices are stated excl. or incl. VAT, free plan or trial. This criterion explains Framer's last place, as its site exists only in English.

We did not use the numbers of sites created, the user counts or the review ratings displayed by vendors: none of them can be checked from the outside.

The 10 best website builder software: the profiles

1. Wix

Wix offers two starting points: describing your business to its AI website generator, which produces a custom site you then personalize, or choosing from more than 800 free templates. The drag-and-drop editor places each element down to the pixel on a free-form canvas, and the Aria assistant can generate any type of content.

The site grows with business modules: online store, portfolio, blog, services with bookings and payments, online courses, logo maker. On the search side, Wix highlights SEO tools and advice and generates SEO meta tags with AI; its CMS creates collections and dynamic pages without code. See also our guide to optimize your Wix site for SEO and GEO.

Best for: small businesses and independents who want a full website, with a store, bookings or online courses.

Strengths: every Premium plan includes a custom domain, removal of Wix branding and support in French; a 14-day money-back guarantee on every Premium plan; a code platform for developers.

Limitations: the prices shown are for annual subscriptions paid in full at purchase. The Light plan, the cheapest, is limited to 2 collaborators and 2 GB of storage, and its card mentions neither online payments nor e-commerce. The domain is free for one year only.

Pricing: Light at €14 per month, Essentiel at €25, Business at €34 and Business Plus at €149 per month, on an annual subscription, excl. VAT, price checked on October 10, 2026. You can try Wix for free, with no credit card.

2. WordPress.com

WordPress.com hosts and manages a WordPress site for you, "by the people behind WordPress". The offer covers website, blog, newsletter and e-commerce, with fast, secure and fully managed hosting.

Layout relies on hundreds of themes and the block editor, which arranges content and media by drag and drop. A guided site builder lets you launch a site in a few minutes by chatting with AI. For search, WordPress.com advertises built-in tools and access to premium plugins such as Yoast and Rank Math; paid plans open up the store of more than 60,000 plugins. Our guide to make a WordPress site SEO and GEO-friendly details the useful settings.

Best for: bloggers and businesses that want WordPress without managing hosting or security.

Strengths: unlimited bandwidth on every plan; staging sites to test your changes before going live; unlimited pages, posts, users and visitors on paid plans.

Limitations: free sites show WordPress.com ads to their visitors. On the pricing page, the built-in AI assistant, email marketing and real-time backups appear from the Business plan. The domain name is free only for the first year, with a paid annual plan.

Pricing: the French pricing page announces hosting "from €4/month" in its description, while its plan cards show amounts in US dollars (Personnel at 4 per month billed annually, excluding tax), price checked on October 10, 2026; amount and currency: confirm with the vendor. A free version exists.

3. Squarespace

With Squarespace, you build an elegant website without coding, starting from a template designed for your business, the AI design assistant or a domain name. The site can also offer services, sell, issue invoices and collect donations.

The platform brings together on one account your contacts, Squarespace Payments, domains, professional email address and statistics. Marketing includes email and SMS campaigns, SEO tools and an AI visibility section. Appointment booking relies on Acuity Scheduling. See also our guide to make a Squarespace site GEO-friendly.

Best for: creatives and service professionals (photographers, coaches, consultants, beauty professionals) who want a website, appointments and invoices in the same place.

Strengths: a 14-day free trial with no credit card; invoicing, appointment booking, donations and members-only content on the same platform; support 24/7.

Limitations: the most advanced features, the lowest payment processing fees and priority support are reserved for the Squarespace Premium offer. The pricing page presents a 14-day trial, then three paid plans.

Pricing: Basic at €11 per month billed annually (€15 monthly), Essentiel at €17 (€24) and Advanced at €29 (€42), VAT treatment not stated, price checked on October 10, 2026; 14-day free trial.

4. Webflow

Webflow presents itself as a website experience platform, covering visual building, content management, analytics and optimization. In its visual canvas, you design and the tool generates the code, from custom layouts to complex animations; you can also add custom code.

The flexible CMS lets non-technical people publish without calling on developers, and APIs deliver content to other sites or apps. The optimization tools include Analyze, Optimize (A/B testing and AI personalization), Localization and SEO features: title tags and meta descriptions per page, alt text, canonical tags and an automatically generated XML sitemap. Teams manage roles, permissions and publishing approval workflows. Our guide to make a Webflow site SEO-friendly and visible to AIs details these settings.

Best for: marketing teams and designers who want to keep developing a custom website without depending on developers.

Strengths: fine-grained control over design and code; a visual CMS backed by APIs to manage content programmatically; Webflow AI and an MCP server (a protocol that connects AI assistants to your tools) included from the free Starter plan.

Limitations: the offer separates Site plans and Workspace plans, and the Basic plan is meant for sites that do not need a CMS. The free Starter plan is limited to the webflow.io domain, 2 static pages and 50 form submissions. The detailed table on the French pricing page is written in English.

Pricing: Starter free; Basic and Premium paid, billed per site, taxes added at checkout, with up to 40% savings on annual payment; Team on an annual contract and Enterprise custom.

5. Jimdo

Designed for independents, Jimdo builds your site with its AI: structure, text, images and calls to action tailored to your business, live in under 5 minutes. Around the site, the tool brings together bookings, Smart Forms and an online store, all linked to a single customer database.

Invoices are generated automatically from bookings and orders, and payment links can be sent by invoice, WhatsApp or email. For visibility, Jimdo advertises SEO-optimized content structured for AI assistants, managed SEO, Jimdo Local to keep a listing up to date and brand monitoring with rankingCoach. The vendor also provides legal texts and legal notices kept up to date. See our guide to make a Jimdo site SEO and GEO compatible.

Best for: independents who sell appointments or services and want to get paid without piling up tools.

Strengths: a free-forever plan, with no credit card; bookings, orders, invoices and payments linked together; stated GDPR compliance, from a vendor "Made in Germany since 2007".

Limitations: the Free plan is limited to 5 pages on a .jimdosite.com subdomain, with no support, and the Start plan to 10 pages. Search engine optimization and visit statistics appear on the card of the Grow plan. The 14-day withdrawal period applies to consumers, not to businesses.

Pricing: Start at €12.10 per month, Grow at €20.17 and Unlimited at €50.42 per month, incl. VAT, for a 12-month contract term (prices may vary for other terms), price checked on October 10, 2026. The Free plan is €0.

6. e-monsite

A French platform since 2004, e-monsite lets you create a free or professional website, an online store, a blog, or all three at once, without technical knowledge. The site is built from apps: unlimited pages, store, blog, calendar, bookings, portfolio, forum or guestbook.

The free themes can be customized, and you can add your own HTML, CSS and Javascript code. Hosting is included for free with no traffic limit, maintenance and updates are automatic, and a chatbot answers 24 hours a day. The homepage lists specific uses: business, nonprofit, rental, beauty salon or town council.

Best for: nonprofits, town councils and small businesses that want to start for free, then grow without rebuilding their site.

Strengths: a free version with no time limit, which includes most features; switch to a paid plan at any time without starting the site over; e-commerce with no commission.

Limitations: the free version shows ads and is limited to 10 pages and 25 MB of storage. The domain name and SSL certificate are only included from the Business plan; below it, they are add-on services. Monthly payment is reserved for the Business and E-commerce plans, with a three-month commitment.

Pricing: paid annually, Perso at €54 per year, Pro at €66, Business at €186 and E-commerce at €324 per year, VAT treatment not stated, price checked on October 10, 2026. The PRO domain name costs €35 per year.

7. SiteW

SiteW stakes its offer on a tool designed, thought out and hosted in France, with French customer service. Waia, its AI assistant, asks you questions, writes your text, chooses your images and optimizes your SEO to produce a complete site. The drag-and-drop editor supports a blog, portfolio, newsletter, booking calendar and forms.

The online store runs with a 0% commission rate and in-store pickup (click and collect). On the search side, SiteW automatically handles sitemaps, the robots.txt file, redirects and HTTPS, fills in title tags left empty, and lets you customize the titles, meta descriptions and URLs of each page. After each publication, it notifies Bing and IndexNow-compatible engines of new and changed pages, IndexNow being a protocol that alerts search engines to a change. An email sending tool, legal notices and GDPR features are built in.

Best for: micro-businesses, independents, nonprofits and institutions that want a showcase site hosted in France and French customer service.

Strengths: an unlimited free trial, with no credit card; an AI assistant that writes the text and sets up search optimization; a store with no commission on sales, on every e-commerce plan.

Limitations: the free Découverte plan shows a SiteW mention, uses a .sitew.org address and is limited to 5 pages. The SiteW mention remains on the Vitrine Essentielle plan, and ad removal starts with the Vitrine Avancée plan. Professional email addresses and multi-user access come with Vitrine Illimitée.

Pricing: free Découverte plan, then Vitrine and E-commerce plans paid monthly or annually (2 months free on annual billing); prices shown incl. VAT, price varies by visitor country, to be checked from France. With monthly payment, one-time setup fees apply.

8. Webnode

Built for small businesses, Webnode targets caretakers, plumbers, contractors and independents: you describe your project, and its AI builder generates a complete site in a few seconds. AI migration transfers content from another platform, the AI assistant writes text and articles in the editor, and an MCP server connects the site to your own AI tools.

The drag-and-drop editor works from any device, with more than 150 themes. The store accepts PayPal, Klarna and bank cards through Stripe, among others. The business tools add bookings with automatic reminders, invoicing, language versions and a members area. Built-in SEO covers keywords, page titles and descriptions, custom URLs, redirects, an automatic sitemap, Google Search Console and image alt text. See our guide to make a Webnode site SEO and GEO compatible.

Best for: tradespeople and small businesses without technical skills who want an AI-built website and to sell online.

Strengths: a store with no transaction fees; AI migration from another platform; detailed SEO settings down to product pages.

Limitations: the Standard e-shop plan is limited to 2 languages, 100 members, 5 backups and 20 email addresses. Prices are excluding taxes; those cited here concern the e-shop plans.

Pricing: e-shop plans Standard at €9.90 per month paid annually (€14.60 monthly), Pro at €17.90 (€24.60) and Business at €24.90 (€30.90), excl. VAT, domain free for one year, price checked on October 10, 2026.

9. WebSelf

A website builder made in Quebec, WebSelf is aimed at tradespeople, entrepreneurs and creatives. You answer a few questions, then the editor generates your site, which you customize by clicking on each element, with predefined sections and pages that adapt to mobile.

Every site includes hosting; the domain name is free for one year with the Croissance, Avancé and VIP plans on annual payment. The WebSelf Simple toolbox includes settings designed for search optimization, custom forms, password-protected pages, a site history, free Pexels images and statistics. The site can also host a blog and a store, and the vendor's own site is available in French, English and Spanish.

Best for: tradespeople, entrepreneurs and creatives who want a site generated in a few minutes, without worrying about hosting.

Strengths: a 30-day free trial; hosting included in every plan; a refund can be requested within 14 days of buying an annual plan.

Limitations: after the 30-day trial, you have to choose a paid subscription. The store is an option, except on the VIP plan. The multilingual site (Avancé and VIP plans) duplicates the content without translating pages automatically, and advanced statistics are reserved for the Avancé and VIP plans.

Pricing: four plans (Découverte, Croissance, Avancé and VIP), paid monthly or annually.

10. Framer

Framer supports every step, from idea to launch, with a design agent that works directly on the canvas: every change stays visible and editable. Other agents manage the CMS or write code, and the site can also be driven from external tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex.

The platform includes hosting, CMS, SEO, analytics, localization and A/B testing. The Basic plan has 2 CMS collections and built-in SEO; the Pro plan goes up to 10 collections and adds redirects, a staging environment and branches with previews. Our guide to make a Framer site SEO and GEO compatible completes this profile.

Best for: designers, freelancers and small studios (Basic plan), or agency teams and young companies that run their marketing on Framer (Pro plan).

Strengths: AI agents that work on the canvas, with editable changes; connection to external agents; optional AI translation of the site, into up to 20 languages.

Limitations: site and pricing in English only. The Free plan is presented as ideal for non-commercial use, and connecting a custom domain requires a paid plan. Extra editors are paid per seat, and AI features consume monthly credits.

Pricing: prices published in dollars on the site; Free plan at no cost, Enterprise custom.

What should you check before choosing?

1. What does the free plan really include? At e-monsite, the free version shows ads; at SiteW, the Découverte plan keeps a SiteW mention and a .sitew.org address. Check from which plan your site carries your own domain.

2. Is the price shown excl. or incl. VAT, and for what term? Wix shows prices excluding taxes for an annual subscription paid at purchase, Jimdo prices incl. VAT for 12 months, SiteW prices incl. VAT that depend on the visitor's country, with setup fees on monthly payment. Compare the total cost over one year, taxes and commitment included.

3. What does the domain name cost after the first year? Wix, WordPress.com, Webnode and WebSelf offer the domain for the first year depending on the plan; e-monsite only includes it from the Business plan. Ask for the renewal price and whether you can transfer the domain if you leave.

4. Which search settings are included in your plan? The list varies from one tool to another, and sometimes from one plan to another: at Jimdo, SEO appears on the card of the Grow plan. If you are migrating an existing site, check that the tool lets you redirect your old URLs to the new ones.

5. Does the tool help you meet your obligations? Check what the tool provides (legal texts at Jimdo, built-in legal notices and GDPR features at SiteW, an accessibility assistant at Wix) and what remains your responsibility.

Where does this ranking stop?

It relies on public information. The vendors' sites were consulted in October 2026; no test site was built and page speed was not measured. For a few vendors, our reading turned up no features page or no figure: their profiles rely on the other pages, and a site builder that says little about its features may be underrated here.

Prices depend on your country. The currency can depend on the country: the SiteW pricing page offers a list of countries, each tied to its currency. Check every amount on the vendor's site before subscribing.

Your project counts more than the rank. A tradesperson, a nonprofit and a marketing team do not need the same tool. The Best for lines will help you more than the order of the ranking, which will be revised regularly.

How do you bring visitors to your new site from Google and AI assistants?

A website builder gives you pages online and the settings to get them indexed. The tools in this ranking handle hosting, tags and the sitemap, and several add features to be found on Google or in AI assistants. What remains is regular work: publishing content that answers your future customers' questions, on Google as well as in ChatGPT.

Sorank automates that work. You connect your site, whether it runs on WordPress, Webflow, Wix or Shopify; Sorank opens with a technical audit and research into your keywords, writes articles optimized for AIs and publishes them on your site, and lets you know when an AI cites you. Each feature is presented on the GEO software page; for a first look at your site and your keywords, book a call.

Conclusion

One recommendation per profile: Wix for a small business that wants a full website, with a store or bookings, support in French and prices published in euros; SiteW for a micro-business or a nonprofit that wants a showcase site hosted in France, an AI assistant and a commission-free store; Webflow for a marketing team or designers who want control over design, the CMS and search settings page by page.

Before subscribing, test the free plan or the trial, build two or three real pages and check the total price over one year, taxes and domain included. If you would rather hand the site to a provider, go back to the ranking of web design agencies mentioned above to compare the two options.

Frequently asked questions

Which software should you choose to build a website without coding?

All ten tools in this ranking let you build a site without writing code. Wix, Jimdo and Webnode generate a first site with AI from a description of your business, and SiteW relies on Waia, its AI assistant. Webflow and Framer are aimed more at designers and marketing teams who want fine-grained control over design.

Can you build a website for free?

Yes: Wix, WordPress.com, Jimdo, e-monsite, SiteW, Webnode, Webflow and Framer let you build a site for free. These versions have limits, for example ads on the free version of e-monsite and on free WordPress.com sites, or a .jimdosite.com subdomain at Jimdo: check those of the tool you choose. At Jimdo and Framer, connecting your own domain name requires a paid plan.

How much does website builder software cost?

Among the prices published in euros and checked on October 10, 2026, Wix starts at €14 per month excl. VAT (Light, on an annual subscription), Squarespace at €11 per month billed annually (Basic, VAT treatment not stated), Jimdo at €12.10 per month incl. VAT (Start, over 12 months) and e-monsite at €54 per year (Perso). Webnode's e-shop plans start at €9.90 per month excl. VAT paid annually. Always check whether the price is excl. or incl. VAT and whether it assumes annual payment.
