Compare the 10 best web design agencies in Sydney on four buyer criteria: Sydney base, sites built, named clients and a published method.

In short
Devotion Digital is a full-service agency in Manly with an in-house team for strategy, development and marketing. Atlas Agency suits a website that must work alongside SEO and social media from one team, Cloud Web Design builds WordPress, Shopify and WooCommerce sites around enquiries and sales, and Acidgreen and Convert Digital focus on online stores. Digital Garden works on Drupal platforms for universities, councils and not-for-profits, Createur specialises in Shopify Plus, Firefly Interactive brings brand, UX and websites together, Butterflow builds Webflow sites for brands, and EG Solutions says it offers fixed-price quotes from the Sydney CBD. The deciding criterion is not a rating or a project count. It is whether the agency shows a Sydney base, names the sites it built and explains how it works.

Choosing among web design agencies in Sydney means choosing among a large market. The Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 2814778 actively trading businesses in the Australian economy at 30 June 2026, in its Counts of Australian Businesses, including Entries and Exits release of 18 August 2026. Some of them will sooner or later need a web partner.
The agencies on this list are spread across Sydney, from the CBD and Surry Hills to Manly, Double Bay, Arncliffe, Crows Nest and Caringbah. A business that picks an agency from another city, or from a national directory, has no way to judge whether that team knows its neighbourhood, its customers or its local competitors. That is why this ranking applies one filter first: only agencies whose own site shows an address, an office or a team in Sydney can appear.
The count in the release cited above is national, so it does not show how many of those businesses are in Sydney alone. It does show the pool that Sydney agencies compete for, and each business in it has to decide who builds its website and who keeps it running after launch.
Four fears come up again and again, and each one can be checked before signing.
1. Paying for a site they cannot change. A website built on closed tools, or on files the agency never hands over, leaves the company dependent on its builder for every text change. Ask who holds the source files and the hosting account before the first invoice.
2. A site that only works in one language. A Sydney business that serves customers in more than one language needs each version written and checked by someone who reads it. A site translated late, or machine-translated and never checked, can cost more in credibility than it saved in budget.
3. Depending on one person who disappears. Many small studios and freelancers in Sydney are excellent, but a project run by a single person has no backup when that person is ill, busy or gone. Ask who else knows the project and where the files are stored.
4. A quote that leaves out what comes after launch. Domain renewals, hosting, security updates, content changes and GST are often missing from the first figure. According to business.gov.au, the Australian government's business portal, as reviewed in November 2026, GST is a tax of 10% on most goods, services and other items sold or consumed in Australia, and a registered business must include GST in the price of most goods and services it sells. Ask whether each quote includes GST before comparing two of them.
Four criteria, fixed before we checked who meets them, and applied only to what each agency publishes on its own site.
1. A stated Sydney presence. The site must show a Sydney address, office or team. Addresses in Greater Sydney, such as Parramatta or Caringbah, count when the agency's own site places its work in Sydney. Agencies with a base elsewhere and no office in Sydney do not appear, even when they serve Sydney clients. Digital Garden says it is based in Sydney without publishing a street address, so it counts on that basis.
2. Website building at the core of the offer. Creating sites is a real service on the homepage, not a line among hosting, print and social media.
3. Named clients or projects. Clients, case studies or projects that a buyer can check by visiting the website.
4. A readable method. Steps, principles, ownership of the site or support after launch, published on the site.
The text we reviewed was checked in November 2026, and this page is scheduled for review every 90 days, because local agencies change names, teams and offers often. What we deliberately did not do: we did not reuse the Google ratings, project counts, satisfaction percentages, response times or "best agency" claims that some sites display. None of them can be verified from the outside, and a claim that an agency is the best rated in its city is only the agency's own claim.

Devotion Digital is a full-service digital agency based in Manly, with an in-house team for digital strategy, development and marketing. Its homepage names Regional Australia Bank, for which it moved a site to Xperience by Kentico, and Aurora Expeditions, where it says quote submissions rose by 46%. It also lists G'day Parks, where it says revenue rose by 35%, and calls itself a #1 Kentico partner in APAC, which is its own claim.
Best for: organisations that want strategy, development and marketing from one in-house team, especially if they already run on Kentico. The results on the homepage are the agency's own figures, so ask for the method behind them before relying on them.

Atlas Agency is a digital agency based in Sydney NSW 2000 that describes itself as award-winning. It lists website design and development first among its services, next to SEO, paid media and social media. Its homepage names projects for Oxford Properties, a web development job, Ironbark Gin Distillery, a design and UX project, and Natalie Marie Jewellery, an e-commerce build. Its own text says people work with it because they can meet the team doing the work.
Best for: businesses that want a website and search or social work from one team. Its published work mixes marketing and build projects, so ask to see web-only builds before signing.

Cloud Web Design is a web design and development company based at Arncliffe in Sydney. It builds custom WordPress, Shopify and WooCommerce websites that it says are designed to attract more leads. Its homepage names Pistol Clothing and Custom Signage Australia among its work, and it publishes a three-step process for building a custom website.
Best for: small and mid-sized businesses that want a WordPress, Shopify or WooCommerce site built around enquiries and sales. Ask for the three steps in writing and check who runs the site after launch.

Acidgreen is an ecommerce agency with an office in Sydney NSW 2000 and a second office in Melbourne. It builds on Shopify, Magento and Adobe Commerce, and its services run from platform builds to product data, UX and data work. It says it has 26 years of experience and has built 1500 websites. Its homepage also answers two buyer questions, how much an ecommerce project costs and how long it takes.
Best for: B2B and B2C brands that need a store linked to product data and other business systems. The agency works across three platforms and several service lines, so ask which platform it recommends for your catalogue and who will manage the project day to day.

Convert Digital is an ecommerce agency with its address in Surry Hills and offices in Melbourne and Brisbane as well as Sydney. Its work centres on Shopify and commercetools, with services that include web migrations, systems integration, headless development, conversion rate optimisation and ongoing website support. Its homepage says it has partnered with some of Australia's most loved brands for ten years, and it presents case studies.
Best for: retailers that need Shopify or commercetools connected to stock, payments or an existing business system. Read the case studies closely, since the "most loved brands" line is the agency's own description.

Digital Garden is a Drupal agency that says it is based in Sydney without publishing a street address. Its homepage names The University of Sydney, for a scalable executive learning platform, Inner West Council, for a Drupal platform for one of Sydney's largest councils, and Ironbark, a financial services group unified on one digital platform. It says it has partnered with government, enterprise and not-for-profit organisations since 2003, and that it won three 2026 Australian Good Design Awards.
Best for: universities, councils, government bodies and not-for-profits that need a Drupal platform. As no street address is published, ask where the team sits and who you would speak to day to day.

Createur is an independent Shopify agency based in Darlinghurst, Sydney. It says it specialises in complex enterprise solutions built on Shopify Plus, and it also offers mobile app development and UX consulting. Its homepage names Nude by Nature, Tigerlily Swimwear, Harris Farm and Christopher Esber among the brands it has worked with.
Best for: brands that run on Shopify Plus or plan to move onto it. The offer also covers apps and UX, so confirm that Shopify is the core of your brief before comparing prices.

Firefly Interactive is a digital design agency based in Double Bay, Sydney, that works on brand, strategy, UX and websites. Its homepage names the Australian Human Rights Commission among its projects, and it describes a Newington website redesign that covered branding, a microsite, strategy, UX and the website itself.
Best for: organisations that want brand, UX and a website designed together, including public bodies and education. Ask who builds the site once the design is approved, since the homepage puts its emphasis on design and strategy.

Butterflow is a Webflow studio based in Manly. It describes itself as a certified Webflow partner that builds websites as a brand platform, and it names GSA Planning, Divitis Finance and The Make Haus among its projects. Strategy and consulting sit next to website design and build in its offer.
Best for: brands and agencies that want a Webflow site designed around their brand. If you need WordPress, Shopify or a custom application, this studio is the wrong fit, so confirm the platform first.

EG Solutions is a digital agency based in the Sydney CBD, offering web design, SEO, ecommerce and AI automation. It says it has delivered more than 200 projects, offers fixed-price quotes and builds sites in 3 to 4 weeks. Its homepage names Eden Property, Love Limousines and LCI Consultants among its web projects.
Best for: small and mid-sized Sydney businesses that want a fixed quote and face-to-face meetings. Delivery times and retention figures are the agency's own claims, so ask exactly what a 3 to 4 week build includes.
The four criteria were chosen before we checked who meets them, and each cell reflects what the agency publishes on its own site. "Not published" means the text we reviewed does not show that information, not that the agency lacks it. Ask the agencies directly before drawing conclusions from a gap.

Three questions separate a shortlist faster than any portfolio, and each one matches one of the fears above.
1. Who holds the source files, the domain and the hosting account? The answer should be in writing and should let you leave the agency without losing the site. If the files stay on the agency's servers, ask what happens to them if the contract ends.
2. Which languages are included, and who checks each version? If the site needs more than one language, the quote should name each one, with the person who writes and approves each text. A translation that nobody at your company reads can do lasting damage.
3. Which result will be measured, and against what starting point? Agree before the start on one or two indicators you already track, such as enquiries, sales or appointments, and record their level on day one. Without a baseline, no report can show whether the new site worked.
Three limits, stated clearly, because a ranking that claims to settle everything is not usable.
It is built only on public information. We read what each agency publishes on its own site and checked the Sydney address. We did not visit any client, open any site in a browser to test its quality, or verify a single project. An agency that communicates little and works very well will be underrated here.
It cannot know your context. A law firm in the CBD, a shop in Manly and a council project in Western Sydney do not need the same partner. The "Best for" lines matter more than the order of the list.
It ages. Agencies in a city of this size merge, change their names, and move offices, and the Sydney filter depends on what each site says today. This page is reviewed every 90 days, and the review date is stated in the method.
This is the honest part, on a page published by a software company. An agency beats software on everything that requires understanding a client's market, making choices about tone and structure, and taking responsibility for a result it does not fully control. Knowing which page a visitor needs first, deciding what to cut from a brief, and writing a text that sounds like the company rather than a template: none of that is automatable today, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling you something. For a broader view of when hiring an agency makes more sense than running a channel in house, see our agency guide.
What no agency project solves on its own is what happens after launch. AI assistants read more than the homepage: they draw on guides, comparison pages and articles, and a site that is well designed but never updated remains a weak source for them.
That is what Sorank works on. It is software, not an agency: keyword research, article writing, internal linking, publishing to your site and tracking how often you appear in the answers AI assistants give. That last part is not decoration. Pricing starts at 99€ per month, with 3 days offered and a card required at sign up. If you would rather talk it through first, book a call.
If you want a single recommendation: Atlas Agency if you want a website and search or social work from one team, Cloud Web Design if you need a WordPress, Shopify or WooCommerce site built around enquiries, Createur if your store runs on Shopify Plus, and Digital Garden if you are a council, a university or a not-for-profit that needs a Drupal platform. Whichever you choose, ask who holds the files before asking what the site will look like.
If you are still weighing an agency against doing the work in house, our agency guide sets out the trade-offs, and the checks above will tell you quickly which Sydney agency deserves a second call.
Sydney has more credible names than a top 10 can hold. These agencies also show a Sydney base on their own sites, and each line below comes from what they publish about themselves.
| Agency | Site | What they publish about themselves |
|---|---|---|
| DSIGNS | dsigns.com.au | Parramatta studio (NSW 2150) that calls itself Sydney's trusted small-business studio, offering custom web design, branding, SEO and Google Ads under one roof |
| Chook Digital | chook.com.au | Pyrmont agency that builds websites, apps and campaigns for media and entertainment brands, naming HOYTS Cinemas and Seven Network among its clients |
| Creativ Digital | creativ.com.au | Crows Nest team that says it has been a Sydney web development company since 2007, building custom websites, web apps and integrations |
| AusWeb Design | auswebdesign.com.au | Northern Beaches team in Warriewood offering custom websites built for leads and sales, with web design, SEO and local support |
| Cronulla Web Design | cronullawebdesign.com.au | Caringbah studio offering custom web design, SEO and branding across the Sutherland Shire, including Caringbah, Miranda and Cronulla |
| Deepend | deepend.com.au | Surry Hills agency that designs and delivers sites and platforms for large organisations, with its page listing Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide |
| EUX Digital | eux.com.au | Elizabeth Street office in Sydney that builds WooCommerce and Shopify stores for established Australian retailers, with POS, payment and stock integrations |
| Creato | creato.com.au | Epping Road studio in Sydney that builds custom websites and visual identities, aiming to make it easy for customers to enquire |
| Checkpoint Creative | checkpointcreative.com.au | Sydney studio, street address not published, that says it builds WordPress websites, handles UI/UX design and offers ongoing support under one roof |
| DAC Design | dacdesign.au | Surry Hills studio specialising in Shopify development and custom web design, delivering across Australia |
This ranking reflects my own experience and opinion as an SEO expert with more than 7 years in the field. It is based on verified facts, but the order itself is my personal view.
The answer should be in writing and should let you leave the agency without losing the site. If the files stay on the agency's servers, ask what happens to them if the contract ends.
If the site needs more than one language, the quote should name each one, with the person who writes and approves each text. A translation that nobody at your company reads can do lasting damage.
