How it works
Your site, your email and a confirmation code. No account, no password.
One to four tasks, with the site to open, the estimated time and the difficulty.
Paste the page that holds the link: we check it and your streak grows.

Summary
The backlink challenge is a free 30-day program that gives you one link building mission each morning, chosen for your type of business: SaaS, e-commerce, local business, freelancer, agency or franchise. You post each link yourself, paste the address of the page that holds it, and the tool checks that the link is online and whether it is follow or nofollow. A streak of consecutive days keeps you going, and streak freezes cover the days you miss. No account and no payment: only your email.

Link building works when it becomes a habit. The backlink challenge turns it into a short daily routine: one mission, a few minutes, one link you can verify. Links still count: Google says it "uses links as a signal when determining the relevancy of pages" (Google Search Central, link best practices). The challenge starts with the links every business can earn, then moves to the sites that matter in your market.
You sign up once, then everything happens in one mission per day.
The pace is deliberate: one mission a day spreads your new links over weeks instead of one sudden batch.
The six tracks share the same first week and the same foundations. After that, each one follows its own list of sites, ordered from the most useful to the most demanding.
| Track | Where the links come from |
|---|---|
| SaaS Startups, software and online tools | Launch platforms, software review sites, startup databases and developer communities |
| E-commerce Online shops and product brands | Review platforms, product listings, resellers, labels, gift guides and the press |
| Local business Shops, trades, restaurants and practices | Maps, local directories, reviews, town hall, chamber of commerce, local press and events |
| Freelancer Freelancers, consultants and coaches | Freelance platforms, professional federations, talks, podcasts and guest articles |
| Agency Marketing, web and design agencies | Agency directories, partner programs of the tools you use, client sites and design galleries |
| Franchise Franchise networks and multi-location brands | Franchise directories, then every location: maps, local pages, local press and sponsoring |
The exact order of the missions and the niche sites of each track arrive day by day in your email. If you hesitate, pick the track that describes how customers find you.
The first week builds the base that every later link relies on: a consistent identity and the profiles that search engines and AI use to recognize your business.
| Day | Mission | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Prepare your brand kit | Write down your exact name, address and phone, three bios (short, medium and long), your logo, three photos and three anchors. Choose the 3 to 5 pages that should receive links and note your starting point. |
| 2 | Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X | A Facebook Page, a professional Instagram account, a LinkedIn company page and an X account, each with your website. |
| 3 | YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Threads | A YouTube channel with its links, a TikTok Business account, a Pinterest business account with your domain claimed, and a Threads profile. |
| 4 | Bluesky, Mastodon, Reddit, Quora | Your domain as your Bluesky handle, a verified link on Mastodon, a Reddit profile and a Quora Space for your brand. |
| 5 | Depends on your track | Local business, freelancer and agency: your Google Business Profile, then Bing Places and Apple Business Connect. SaaS: an early launch listing. E-commerce: your review profile. Franchise: one Google listing per location. |
| 6 | Telegram, WhatsApp Business, Tumblr, Gravatar | A public Telegram channel, your WhatsApp Business profile, a Tumblr blog and the founder's Gravatar. |
| 7 | Connect everything | An About.me page for the founder, a single link hub page, then every new profile added to the sameAs list of your Organization schema. |
Day 7 matters: Google describes sameAs as a page on another site with more information about your organization, such as a social or review profile (Google, Organization structured data). From day 8, missions add the sites of your track, plus a short bonus post on one of your new profiles.
When you tick a task, paste the address of the page that holds your link. The tool downloads that page, finds the link to your domain and reads its rel attribute, keeping the most useful one if there are several.
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Follow link | A standard link, with no qualifying attribute |
| Nofollow, ugc or sponsored link | A link marked with one of the values Google reads as hints |
| Link through a redirect | The link passes through an exit page of the site before reaching yours |
| Not found yet | The page loads the link with JavaScript, or the listing is waiting for approval |
| Blocked | The site refuses automatic checks, and the task still counts |
Google defines three values to qualify a link: sponsored for paid placements, ugc for user content such as comments and forum posts, and nofollow for the other cases (Google, qualify outbound links). Since 2019, Google treats these values as hints rather than strict instructions (Google Search Central blog, 2019). Most social profiles use nofollow, and that is fine: they confirm who you are, bring visits and feed the sources AI reads. Follow links come later, from directories, partners and niche media.
The check reads public pages only. Pages of your own site, raw IP addresses and local servers are refused. Pasting an address is optional: you can tick a task without it, but the checked links are the ones that prove your progress.
Your streak counts the consecutive days on which you complete at least one task, in your own time zone.
Your dashboard shows your current streak, your best streak, the links posted, the freezes in stock and your last 30 days. A season lasts 30 days and ends with a review: you open each link again, check that it is still online, and compare your referring domains with day 1. Up to three seasons follow one another, each one picking up where your track left off.
Because regular links placed by hand look natural. Google's spam policies list "using automated programs or services to create links to your site" among link spam practices (Google spam policies). The challenge automates nothing on other sites: you write each profile, listing and post yourself.
Note your starting point on day 1, then compare at the end of each season. Count your referring domains in the Links report of Google Search Console, and run the free backlink checker to see the dofollow and nofollow split of your profile. Ask an AI assistant the same question about your sector on day 1 and on day 30, and note which brands it recommends. To follow these numbers week after week, the domain authority tracker records your Domain Rating, and AI mention tracking shows when ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini start naming your brand.
One mission a day, a link you can verify, a streak that keeps you going: that is how link building becomes a habit. Start your first mission above. Once your profiles and listings are in place, the Sorank Backlink Network adds contextual links from sites in your niche, and the Sorank plans publish your articles on autopilot.
