The keyword value calculator estimates how many clicks a keyword brings each month, what that organic traffic would cost in paid search, and how much revenue it can generate. It is built for SEO managers, content strategists and agency teams who need to prioritise keywords by commercial impact rather than volume alone. Enter the data into the calculator above to get your figures instantly.
How keyword value is calculated
The tool applies a click-through rate from an industry CTR curve, then chains three multiplications:
- Estimated clicks = Monthly search volume x CTR at target position
- Traffic value = Estimated clicks x Average CPC
- Estimated revenue = Estimated clicks x Conversion rate x Average order value
The CTR values come from aggregated data across millions of search results (Backlinko, AWR, SISTRIX, 2023-2025). Position 1 carries a median CTR of 27.6%, position 3 drops to 10.2%, and position 5 sits at 5.9%.
Worked example. Suppose a keyword has 2000 monthly searches, you target position 3, the average CPC in your niche is 1.5€, your site converts at 2% and the average order is 120€.
- Estimated clicks: 2000 x 10.2% = 204 clicks
- Traffic value: 204 x 1.5€ = 306€/month
- Estimated revenue: 204 x 2% x 120€ = 490€/month
Reaching position 1 for the same keyword would raise clicks to 552 and revenue to approximately 1325€/month, which shows how much the ranking position shifts the outcome.
How to improve your keyword value
- Move up one or two positions first. The CTR curve is steep at the top. Going from position 5 to position 3 nearly doubles your click share (5.9% to 10.2%), so incremental gains in competitive SERPs deliver disproportionate returns.
- Improve your title tag and meta description. CTR is not fixed. A compelling title can outperform the curve average, increasing actual clicks without changing your ranking.
- Target keywords where CPC reflects real commercial intent. A high CPC signals that advertisers pay to capture that audience, which usually correlates with stronger conversion rates. Use CPC as a proxy for intent quality.
- Work on conversion rate alongside rankings. Revenue is the product of clicks and conversion rate. A 1% improvement in conversion rate has the same effect on revenue as a large traffic gain.
- Account for AI Overviews in your projections. When an AI Overview appears above the organic results, position 1 CTR can drop by up to 58% (Ahrefs, 300K keywords, December 2025). Factor this into your estimates for informational queries that are likely to trigger AI answers.
- Group semantically related keywords. A single page can rank for many variants. Calculate the combined value of a keyword cluster to set realistic traffic and revenue targets for a piece of content.
Reference benchmarks
Across all industries, the median organic conversion rate is around 2.6% (First Page Sage). E-commerce typically converts at 1.8% and SaaS B2B ranges from 1.9% to 7%. These are indicative averages; your actual rate depends on your offer, audience and landing page. Always use your own data from Google Analytics or your CRM when available.
