Data study of 301025 AI answers: how often Reddit is cited by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Grok, month by month over 13 months.

Reddit is cited in 1.48% of measured answers over the last three months, which places it fourth of the platforms tracked. It is cited by 4 of the five models, most often by Grok at 4.11% and least often by Claude at 0%.
Reddit looks moderate on average and that average hides everything: it is a leading source on one model and a non source on another.
A citation rate of 2% means the source was cited twice for every 100 measured answers. Rates are computed per model against the number of answers of that model, so a model with a smaller sample never distorts a column. A source cited several times inside one answer is counted once per company block, which keeps a single verbose answer from dominating a month.
The gap between the model that cites Reddit most and the one that cites it least is 4.11 points. That spread, not the average, is what should decide a budget: the same work returns most on Grok and least on Claude. Across all tracked platforms, Reddit ranks fourth.
Over the 13 months measured, Reddit moved from 0.16% in August 2025 to 0.5% in August 2026, with a peak of 3.13% in June 2026. Averaged over the first three months against the last three, the movement is plus 0.69 points.
This is the platform where reading the average causes the most damage. On the model that leans on community content, Reddit sits among the top sources. On the most selective model, it does not appear at all over 13 months. Community work is therefore high variance: valuable where your buyers use conversational and community driven assistants, close to worthless where they use analytical ones. It is also the source you control least, which argues for participation rather than promotion.

Only slowly and only honestly. What gets cited is usually a comparison thread or a question thread, not a brand post. The realistic goal is factual accuracy in the threads that already exist, not manufactured advocacy.
