Ski Resort SEO: Win the Trip Before the First Snowfall

Ski resort SEO is how a mountain gets picked when a family searches "best ski resort for beginners in Colorado" in September, or asks ChatGPT where to ski in March with kids and a modest budget. Sorank writes the planning content that wins those decisions: guides on passes, lessons, terrain and lodging, published months before the lifts open, and a monthly check of which resorts the AI assistants recommend.

Snow reports, webcams and bookings stay in your own tools; Sorank works on the pages that send visitors to them.

Publish while guests are still planning

"When to buy a ski pass", "ski school for a 5-year-old", "is March a good time to ski": most winter trips are decided long before the first snowfall. Sorank fills a content calendar months ahead with articles on passes, lessons, terrain and lodging, published on the days you choose, autopilot on or off.

The schedule lives in the content calendar.

Know which resorts ChatGPT suggests

Ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity for "the best ski resort for intermediates with kids" and the answer picks three or four mountains, often leaning on travel review sites and videos. Sorank asks the questions you track every month and shows your visibility rate, your rank among the resorts cited and the result of each model.

Each mention is followed in AI Mention Tracking.

Measure the visits AI assistants send

A trip planned with an assistant leaves a trace: visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini to your website. Sorank counts those visits month by month next to your Google clicks, so you see whether your guides on lessons or lodging bring traffic before the season and during it.

Both curves share one screen in the GEO / SEO Dashboard.

How it works

Connect the resort website

WordPress, Webflow, Wix or a custom site through a webhook. Sorank reads your Search Console data to see which pages (passes, lessons, lodging) already draw visitors, and in which months.

List what the mountain offers

Terrain for each level, ski school, rentals, passes, lodging, summer activities: Sorank proposes the planning questions behind each one, with their volume and difficulty.

Publish on the season's timeline

Pass guides before your early-bird deadline, lesson guides before school holidays, spring skiing in February: articles go live on the dates you set, each linked to the right booking page.

What Sorank publishes for a ski resort

  • Trip planning guides"Ski trip with kids: what to book first", "how many days do you need here", linked to lodging and lessons.
  • Pass and ticket answers"Season pass or day tickets for a six-day stay?", written from your own pricing rules.
  • Terrain by level"Best runs for a first week on skis", "where to find tree skiing", using your trail and lift names.
  • Ski school and rentalsLesson ages, what to wear on day one, how boot fitting works, for first-timers and their parents.
  • Off-season contentMountain biking, hiking and summer events, so the site keeps working after closing day.
  • A monthly AI reportWhether ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini recommend your resort, and which review sites and videos they rely on.

What is ski resort SEO?

Ski resort SEO is the work that makes a mountain resort appear when people plan a ski trip, on Google and in AI assistants. A resort sells far more than lift tickets: season passes, lessons, rentals, lodging, dining and summer activities, and each one answers searches made weeks or months before the visit.

Competition is real. According to figures from the National Ski Areas Association reported by Snow Sports News, US ski areas recorded 61.5 million skier visits in 2024-25, the second-highest season on record, with 492 areas operating, and season pass holders made up 49% of visits. Half the visits are decided when someone picks a pass, long before the snow. If your lodging is sold separately, our pages for hotels and vacation rentals cover that side.

How do skiers choose a resort on Google and in ChatGPT?

They compare terrain for their level, snow reliability, price, travel time and what the children will do. On Google they read resort pages, guides and reviews; in ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity they ask for a short list and follow the sources it cites.

Video and review platforms weigh on those answers. In our sports AI citation study, YouTube is the most cited platform at 4%, and Gemini cites it in 9.11% of its answers. Our TripAdvisor AI citation study finds TripAdvisor cited by all five models, most often by Perplexity at 1.48%. A resort that publishes precise pages, keeps its review profiles alive and posts run videos gives the models more to work with.

The searches the AIs run before they recommend a resort: each one is a topic for your next guide.

When should a ski resort publish?

Ahead of each decision. Pass guides go live before your early-bird deadline, lodging and lesson guides before the holiday booking rush, spring skiing pieces in February, summer content before the lifts close. Sorank schedules them in a calendar, so the work does not depend on the busiest weeks of your team.

Dates matter on pages about seasons and prices. Google asks site owners to show a visible publication or update date, to match it with datePublished and dateModified in structured data, and to make those dates describe the page itself, not the events it mentions. Update a guide when the facts change, as our definition of content freshness explains, and plan the year with our guide on how to create a content calendar.

Which keywords should a ski resort target?

Group the searches by intent and give each group a page:

  • Destination and level: "best ski resort for beginners in Utah", "expert terrain Vermont". A terrain page per level, with your trail names.
  • Family: "ski school age 4", "ski resort with daycare". Guides that answer parents first.
  • Price: "lift ticket prices", "is a season pass worth it". Your pass page, with articles that explain the options.
  • Timing: "best time to ski in Colorado", "spring skiing conditions". Seasonal guides, dated and updated.
  • First-timers: "what to wear skiing for the first time". Practical articles that end on lessons and rentals.
  • Summer: "mountain biking lift access", "summer things to do near the resort". Off-season pages.

Our guide to local keyword research details the method.

What should a resort article contain to be quoted?

A direct answer, then the numbers a skier checks: summit and base elevation, vertical drop, runs by difficulty, the lifts that serve them, typical opening and closing periods, lesson ages, and the link to book. Name your trails and lifts; generic text about "great snow" is never quoted.

Video helps a mountain more than most trades. Google's video guidelines recommend a dedicated watch page for each video, structured data that describes it and Clip markup that labels key moments, such as each section of a run. Our definition of video SEO sums up the rest.

What does Sorank do, and what stays with the resort?

Sorank finds the planning questions, writes and illustrates the guides, links them to your pass, lesson, rental and lodging pages, publishes them on WordPress, Webflow, Wix or through a webhook, tracks the AI answers every month and shows Search Console and AI visits in one dashboard. It also earns backlinks from other Sorank client sites.

The resort keeps everything live and operational: snow reports, webcams, lift status, prices, the booking engine, listings on travel sites and the Google Business Profile. For the off-season, Google advises marking a business temporarily closed when it closes for 7 days or more in a row, and using special hours for shorter changes. Groups that sell several destinations will find more on our page on travel SEO and on the one for tour operators.

How much does ski resort SEO cost?

Sorank is billed per website: $49 per month on a yearly plan, or $99 month to month, for 20 articles a month and 10 AI prompts on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Pro ($129 a month billed yearly) publishes 60 articles and adds Grok, a fit for a resort with lodging, ski school and summer activities to cover; Business publishes 120 (see pricing). A group with one site per mountain pays for each site. 3 days are free to test it.

How long before SEO brings bookings?

Google gives no fixed delay, and a resort lives on a yearly cycle. Articles published in spring and summer have time to gain impressions before the winter planning peak. Judge the first season by comparing Search Console impressions and clicks month by month with the same months of the previous year, and keep the guides that worked updated for the next one.

Frequently asked questions

When should a ski resort start publishing for next winter?

In spring or summer. Pass and lodging decisions start early, and new articles need time to gain impressions before the planning peak in autumn.

How do I get my resort recommended by ChatGPT?

Publish precise pages on terrain, lessons, passes and lodging, keep your review profiles and videos current, then track every month whether ChatGPT names your resort and which sources it cites.

Does Sorank update snow reports or lift status?

No. Live data such as snow depth, lift status and webcams stays in your own tools. Sorank writes the planning guides that link to them.

Does Sorank manage our Google Business Profile?

No. Your profile, hours, photos and reviews stay with your team. Sorank works on the articles of your website and on the AI answers.

Which keywords should a ski resort target first?

Start with terrain by level and family questions, then passes and prices, then the timing searches of your region. Summer activities come next.

Does Sorank work with our resort website?

Yes. Sorank publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Wix and Shopify, and to any other site through a webhook, live or as drafts for your team.

How does Sorank compete with billion-dollar tools like Semrush?

We don't. Sorank isn't trying to be another Semrush or Ahrefs. Those tools are built for data, Sorank is built to do the work. Instead of more dashboards to check, it turns SEO and GEO insights into actions: articles written and published, backlinks earned, technical fixes and AI visibility tracking. Less complexity, more results.

How much does Sorank cost?

From $49/month per website on a yearly plan, with a 3-day free trial and a 90-day money-back guarantee (conditions apply). Every plan includes articles, AI visibility tracking and access to natural backlink acquisition; higher plans add more articles, more AI prompts tracked and more backlinks. No setup fees, no paying for seats you don't use.

You don't have time and a big budget?

You shouldn't need a full marketing team or expensive tools to grow. Sorank handles your entire SEO and AI visibility, so you save time and money.
