# Editorial strategy

> Choose topics suited to your business and prepare their creation in SORANK.

The editorial strategy connects your business, your keywords and your calendar. Sorank draws on your site brief and your market to suggest content topics.

## Describing your business

Fill in your site brief: your products and services, your audience, your language and the geographic areas you serve. This information guides topic suggestions and article writing.

You can specify your positioning in the instructions, for example: "We offer equipment for individuals in France. Use an educational tone and illustrate everyday use cases."

## Choosing the keywords to cover

Browse the suggested keywords and select the ones you want to develop. Add your selection to the [content calendar](/documentation/content-calendar) to schedule article generation and publication.

You can adjust this selection according to your priorities and remove a topic from the calendar before it is generated.

## Choosing competitors and comparisons

Select the competitors in your market to guide the strategy. Comparison content lets you address the differences between your offering and those of the selected competitors.

You remain in control of the planned topics and can customize the content of an article from the [editor](/documentation/article-editor).

## Customizing the writing

Specify the tone, the elements to include and the desired format: numbered steps, lists, examples or a comparison table. Add your shared instructions in **Settings** > [**Writing**](https://app.sorank.com/settings/writing) and adapt those of a specific article as needed.

Instructions apply to upcoming generations. Articles that have already been created remain editable in the editor.

## Automatic internal linking

During generation, Sorank automatically selects and integrates relevant internal links from the available pages of your site, based on the topic being covered. Internal linking is part of the generation process: you do not need to add these links manually for each article.

A silo groups keywords around a theme. This grouping is used to organize your strategy; it does not replace the choice of blog or category in your CMS.

## From topic to published article

You can start from the suggested keywords, choose the topics to develop and add them to the calendar. Sorank then uses your site context and writing settings to generate each article, integrate internal linking and send it to your publication destination.

Example: for a bicycle rental business, you can develop one set of topics around rides, another around choosing a bicycle and a third around cycling trips. You select the topics and their dates; generation and internal linking are handled by Sorank.

Internal linking is based on the pages identified in the sitemap and existing articles, according to the topic being covered. An article about choosing a bicycle can therefore be linked to a relevant page on your site. You do not need to prepare a list of links for each generation.

## Applying shared or article-specific instructions

In **Settings** > [**Writing**](https://app.sorank.com/settings/writing), **Default instructions** apply to upcoming generations. For a specific topic, you can define instructions in its time slot. When a time slot has its own instructions, those instructions take over from the default instructions.

Example of a shared instruction: "Use an educational tone and provide examples accessible to beginners." For a single comparison article, you might choose: "Present the differences in a table and end with the use cases suited to each option."

This customization applies to future writing. Modifying the brief or the instructions does not rewrite articles that have already been created. You can customize those articles in the [editor](/documentation/article-editor), then send an update if the article is already published.

## Choosing between one-off generation and the calendar

Use [generate articles](/documentation/generate-articles) to immediately launch a topic or a batch with your settings. Use the [content calendar](/documentation/content-calendar) to organize a series of publications over time.

Both paths rely on the same site context. Their difference is the timing and the trigger: a one-off action in the first case, scheduled planning in the second.
